Fort Sidney Days Planned for June 22 to 24
The Fort Sidney Days celebration will run June 22 through 24 with a free old time dance opening the event. Parades and features from last year return, organized by the Junior Chamber of Commerce with help from other groups. Neal Atkins elected chairman, succeeding Dr. C. H. Babbitt, and a committee including Rae Jones Roy Greenlee Bud Madsen Carl Christ Jr Dwight H. Beck and Jack H. Lowe will guide plans. Details are tentative, but carnival attractions and free acts from the 1949 program are expected. Bertha Libsack won the 1949 Day Queen contest and will continue, with beard growing contests possibly shortened. Planning aims to avoid pro floats, keep floats for Sidney trade area residents, and emphasize community involvement. A further meeting will refine duties across organizations.

Sidney plans a lighted baseball diamond at Cheyenne County Fair Grounds using Yankee Stadium type lighting. A local group forms the Sidney Baseball Association to raise at least 6500 dollars, manage finances, and eventually transfer the lights to the county after investor repayments. A five member commission will run baseball activities and liaise with Jaycees and American Legion which provide equipment and support. County Board approves, stating no county money will be invested until funds are repaid.
