The first annual Air Fair at Sidney Cheyenne County airport drew thousands despite heat and light winds. About 500 rode the Frontier DC-3 sightseeing flights, 45 helicopter runs, and 90 private planes attended breakfast and events. A 2 pm dedication cited airport expansion with officials from CAA CAP and Frontier in attendance, and a busy open house showcased air traffic safety and model planes.

Three Escape From Sterling Logan County Jail
Three inmates escaped from the Logan County jail in Sterling Colorado after tampering with the door mechanism and sawing through a jail window. The fugitives James Robb Robert Billig and Glen Maynard were last seen in a 1955 green Chevrolet sedan. Civil Air Patrol planes patrol the area as authorities warn the suspects are armed and dangerous.

Two Cars Sideswipe On West Highway
Deputy Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh investigated an accident half mile west of Sidney on Route 20 early Saturday morning. Cars belonging to Wayne Kort and Kenneth W. Oaken, both of Sidney, side swiped each other when the Onken car slowed to make a left turn and the Kort vehicle tried to pass. Damage listed at 409 dollars to each auto.

James Curless 73 Dies After Lingering Illness
James A. Curless, 73, retired Union Pacific switchman and Sidney resident for over 30 years, died Sunday at his home after nearly a year of ill health. Funeral set for Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He served in Sidney yards until 1945 and was married twice, to Nancy Willis and Doris Bourne. Survived by wife Doris, six daughters, five sons, one stepdaughter, and 17 grandchildren.

Reckless Driving Brings Fine Of 75 In Sidney
Eugenio G Padilla 31 of S D arrested for willful reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Police Judge Bart Taylor fined him 75 dollars and suspended his license for 20 days. The case followed a collision that damaged Adella M Koehn’s Sidney vehicle at 1329 Elms St with 100 dollars in damage.

Land must be in continuous strip and 90 percent range land with 15 000 acre minimum. Water truck overturns on County Road near Sidney
Glenn Road of Sidney suffered back and left arm injuries when the water truck he drove went off the shoulder and rolled over about ten miles south of Potter yesterday noon. He received emergency treatment at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital and was released. Witnesses report the water truck and a semi-truck met on a hillcrest, the water truck pulled right, hit the shoulder, with damage estimated at $500.

Sidney Men Leave For Missouri Camp
Two Sidney youths, Pvt. Arnold Braasch and Pvt. Melvin Case, departed Saturday by train for Fort Leonard Wood Missouri to begin six months of active military training. They will gain skills to train other reservists after their tour. Braasch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Braasch, plans to enroll at Milford Trade School post service. Shetland Pony Struck and Killed Near Sidney
A Shetland pony owned by Wesley Jensen was struck and killed Saturday by Arno L. Thomas who could not stop his car two miles south and east of Sidney. Patrol Officer Del Shipley investigated the incident. The pony was valued at 500 dollars and vehicle damage was estimated at 80 dollars.
