Broadwater enters oil lists as field eyed by locals

Broadwater residents believe a large oil field lies beneath the region. Geological maps and experienced men support the claim. A Glendo drilling company representative will survey the area next week, followed by Nebraska university researchers. If a northern rim rock is found, the firm may stake a major venture over the south and north rims, opening vast bottom lands for potential oil development.

State plans July 1 guaranty fund assessment boost

State Trade and Commerce Secretary Knudson prepares a semi annual assessment on July 1 to raise the guaranty fund to 1 percent of average deposits for the first half of the year. Regular and special assessments could add about 120000 and four to five hundred thousand, lifting the fund from 2146.02 to above 2.5 million. A half million draft will repay receivers certificates, with 700000 more outstanding and to be reissued as due. Knudson believes obligations can be paid after July 1 leaving over 1.2 million. A ten bank sample suggests a one seventh of one percent average special assessment to reach 1 percent deposits for all banks.
