Sidney Summer Band Series Opens Friday
The Sidney Summer Band, about 70 members, with weekly Friday concerts begins this Friday at 8 p.m. in the band shell, announced by director George Hinn. Next week’s concert moves to Wednesday July 2 at 8 p.m. due to the Fourth of July. Practices are held Tuesdays at the junior high band room with guest soloists featured on some programs. The Friday program includes His Honor March, Summer Skies, Colonel Bogey March, Belmont Overture, Waltzing Winds, Jubilee Concert March, Highlights from Kurt Weil, Speak Low, September Song, Barnum and Bailey's Favorite March, National Anthem.

Nebraska Wheat Harvest Seen Near Record In 1958
Government crop observers expect harvest to begin in early July as Nebraska wheat shows strong yields. Cheyenne County leads production with 5.625 million bushels from 225 000 acres at 25 bushels per acre, despite hail and insect threats. Severe losses hit Scotts Bluff, Box Butte, Morrill and Garden counties, with 7,000 acres damaged or wiped out and 5 000 acres cut from Garden County’s estimate. Cutworm infestations complicate harvest as spraying is limited by law, with reports of 12 or more pale western cutworms per square foot in some fields.
