Trade Barriers Urged End to Russian Wheat Shipping Rule
The Nebraska Wheat Growers Association urged the U.S. government to remove a rule requiring 50 percent of wheat sold to Russia be shipped on American ships. They claim the order raises U.S. wheat prices by 23 cents a bushel, hurts the balance of payments, and blocks potential Russian markets. The group cites past Russia trade and notes Russia showed interest in purchasing up to 165 million bushels in 1964-65. The resolution cites total 1957-1961 Russia trade exceeding $203 million and calls for aligning trade with current patterns.
