Local NARCE Chapter Organizes Retired Civil Employees
The local National Association of Retired Civil Employees branch was formed last September to aid annuitants and survivors under retirement laws and to back beneficial legislation. It highlights pre retirement programs, aging issues, and notes past legislative gains from 1956 to 1964. The first meeting occurred September 27 with officials from Region 12 B present. Marshall Larkins named president, Henry W. Chandler vice president, and Clarence E. Cox noted.

Sidney Student Survives Flood In Lincoln
A Sidney student at the University of Nebraska escaped injury when a sudden flood swept his car into a drainage ditch near Huskerville. He crawled to safety after exiting through a window and was assisted by Air Force personnel who helped retrieve the vehicle with two wreckers. The water covered the car to the dashboard, but he remained unharmed.

Stramit Co held its annual stockholders meeting in Dalton with Dean Hiner reporting optimism about orders continuing. Ken Rimington of Edmonton noted the Dalton plant’s strong progress and Targets Inc of Denver plans to distribute Stramit wheat straw board targets for archery lanes. Contractors increasingly use the boards especially for roof decks as the plant nears a vital industry status. Rimington and Lawrence Marrin were reelected to three year terms on the board.

Tear Gas Shell Explosion Injures Sidney Youth
A 19 year old Sidney youth suffered a severe hand laceration when an unexpended tear gas cartridge exploded as he held it. Another boy, 4, had a heel cut. The shell had been fired Monday at 1444 Rose Street during a disturbance check, lodged in a curtain, and did not detonate. Police traced the shell to the Rhoden home and later to the Langdon residence where youths found it. Memorial Hospital treated the Landmesser youth. police blamed miscommunication over disposal of the shell. The incident left officers "heartsick" over the injury.
