The Trail, published by Sidney High School’s senior class, is a fresh press beauty with clear cuts and original student offerings. The dark crimson edition showcases progressive lines of the city and local booster support.
A lively sketchbook recounts Sidney's school history including classes, championships, student and faculty portraits, and a note on the school board. Professor Pindell guides the Seniors, credited with much of the book’s success and wit, urging home ownership for readers curious about youth and pursuits.
Chief Justice Morrisey along with Justices Rose Letton Sedgwick and West of the Nebraska Supreme Court spent a few hours in our city during a Bar Association event. They toured the area, inspected the transfer of trains, and expressed great impression of the city.
Mr and Mrs Semerad traveled to Denver last Friday returning Wednesday combining business and leisure. Their children in Omaha are recovering well from adenoid and tonsil surgeries.
Sheriff Litton warns of a major boot legging drive in the coming weeks. A well dressed man on a train was arrested with twelve cases of liquor in three trunks, identified as G D Phillips of Wichita. He posted a cash bond but failed to appear. bond forfeited. Another suspect on the same case faced prior checks. A man found with bottles in his bed, Harold Hess, pleaded guilty and is jailed. A Potterman case yielded five pints. fined $100 plus costs. An information system to connect officers with offenders is being rolled out.
Mrs. Fred Vath and sons visit relatives in Schuyler. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hopkins in Sidney on June 21. Mrs. A. Lindberg spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Cheyenne with friends. Mrs. L. R. Barlow and Miss Olive Schroll of Lodgepole visited Sidney dentists Wednesday. The Griffiths drove home from Omaha in a new seven passenger car. Frank O’Kane of Sparks Nevada visits home folks until Monday. Glenn Sanford, son of Mrs. W. A. Reed, leaves for San Francisco for indefinite treatment for a leg with a bullet injury.
Mrs Guy V Doran and daughter Helen arrived Monday evening from Kansas City and will spend the summer with Mrs Doran's brothers H E and F A Gapen. Mr Doran will come in July to spend his vacation.
A. BE. Paulson departs early next week for North Platte to serve as wire chief for the Telephone Company. Earl Dryer of Grand Island will replace him here as manager.
Paul Borgquist came home Wednesday from Omaha where his wife is improving after an operation. He also visited other hospitalized residents and reported Miss Niemeller doing well and Mrs. Guy Shaw slowly improving after a serious spell.
Red Cross tag day last Saturday drew 31 taggers and raised over 340 dollars for Red Cross relief. Workers, including young women and matrons, sported arm bands across business streets as adults paid from a quarter to six dollars and a small boy paid 35 cents. The Sidney Telegraph office coordinated badges and money, with a full report to follow.
The couple married Tuesday June 19 1917 at the Cheyenne Methodist parsonage with witnesses Mrs A Lindberg and the pastor's wife. The bride, born in Sidney, is praised for home making talent, while the groom, a Union Pacific conductor, is well regarded by colleagues. After a month’s western trip they will reside in Cheyenne.
Luther Thomas Killion of Potter and Alma Marie McIntyre of Byers Colorado were joined in matrimony in Sidney Nebraska before Judge Chambers on June 21. Killion works as a depot operator in Potter.
A merry automobile party including Clayton Radcliffe J. J. Tewell Earl Kratz and the Misses Ann Radcliffe and Myrna Swatzlander planned a trip to the Western Nebraska Bar Association in Scottsbluff with a side aim of catching fish in Lawrence Fork and possibly bringing home legal lore.
The Omaha Live Stock Exchange will pay travel for two boys from each of twenty counties to the Junior Farmers Congress at the University Farm in Lincoln in June 1918. Cheyenne County, with strong pig club enrollment, is among the favored counties. County Superintendent Miss Anna McFadden notes the county’s eligibility and invites all pigs clubs members to join by July 1. George Kretzwest’s sons Winfield and Frederick recently returned from such a trip, praising its benefits. AH boys raising a pig may join the club.
A party of fourteen Red Cross workers visited Lodgepole Tuesday evening and helped organize a temporary Red Cross unit. A lively meeting resulted in a provisional organization, and after adjournment the Lodgepole residents hosted the guests at the new hotel with refreshments.
A draft warning urges men to enlist in the volunteer program before conscription begins. Time is limited as one week remains to choose a department, with set enlistment at the local office and new leadership assignments at Lincoln. Machine shop qualified men may apply for Army Balloon School at Fort Omaha.
Henry Brecht and Whitaker Bros of Falls City Nebraska visited the county this week. Brecht purchased a tract of land southeast of Sidney that he intends to improve and plant to crops.
