A large land deal occurred early this week as the Borgquist ranch three miles east of town, comprising 1000 acres, was sold by Paul Borgquist to B A Jones for $30,000 cash. The Borgquists plan a few months’ rest before deciding their next move, with stock and implements still to be disposed of.
A Sidney Base Ball Club has been organized with W LeRoy Larson as Manager and Sam Fine as Secretary Treasurer. Lee Daniel and Joe Fine led a petition that raised 350 to buy uniforms and to prepare the fair grounds for weekly games, emphasizing non professional play and community enjoyment this summer.
The Western Nebraska Bar Association has postponed its meeting to Wednesday June 27. Notices were sent by F. A. Wright of Gering, the association president. The regular meeting date June 6 was too close to registration day for some members to arrive in time.
Membership lists circulated by Mrs. Grabill and other officers include Mesdames Grabil Shoemaker R O Smith Nicholson Miss Neubauer Miss McCann J L Sitton A K Greenlee and others. Autos and drives were donated and every house visited. if not at home the membership roll is open for names.
Miss McCann Miss Neubauer and Miss Grace McFadden host a story hour at the public library on Friday at three o clock. Miss McCann leads the event inviting children of all ages to attend as they hear How the Elephant Got His Trunk by Mipl ing.
The public library has been improved with new furniture since last Saturday. Three reading tables of varying heights with chairs for children and adults have been added, and a librarian's desk installed. The solid oak pieces are described as lasting for all time.
Ernest A. Thoreen of Wahoo and Emma M. Busacker of Dalton wed at Christchurch Sidney. Rev officiated. Bridesmaid Minie Busacker and best man Joseph A. Thoreen. Reception in Dalton. couple to set home in Sidney. Bride deputy postmaster praised. groom an electrician. About thirty attended a later Dalton reception hosted by Mr and Mrs Handley.
Daniel Atchison of Kearney, once a Sidney traveling salesman and former drug store stockholder, died Saturday in Rochester Minnesota before Mayo examination could be completed. He had traveled widely in recent months seeking relief. He is survived by a son and two daughters.
Mrs Julia Ahrens and her grandson Frederick Ahrens departed Sunday for a multistate visit to several Iowa cities and will stay for a number of weeks.
A local insurance notice shows a hail insurance rate for Tiivoni and Son with specified percentage terms and coverage scope. The data indicate premium level and policy duration applicable to the insured parties.
The eleventh day of June marked the county wide annual school meeting day except Sidney. District No 97 settled its affairs amicably. After adjournment two men Mueller and Beth clashed. Mueller was cut on face and head. A jury trial was granted and acquitted after evidence heard by a six person jury.
Mrs. W. R. Weeden hosts the B. D. club today. Mrs. L. G. Lowe travels to Denver with her three sons, planning a summer stay. Frank Johnson reports for duties as express agent in Central City, with Mrs. Johnson joining around July 1. Miss James of Bancroft, Nebraska visits Mrs. A A. Sharp on the north divide.
A supposed failure to register case was resolved when it was found the man had registered in the new precinct, saving him from potential trouble.
Miss Nellie Neimoller of the Trading Company store underwent an appendectomy in Omaha on Wednesday. She reportedly responded well. Meanwhile P. W. Barker, manager of Cheyenne County Trading Company, stayed in Omaha this week to market goods. Guy Hough traveled from his Bayard home to assist in the store during Barker's absence.
J J McIntosh shows progress after a severe illness and is slowly resuming his role in the family circle. Friends hope to see him back downtown at his bank office in a short time.
Henrietta Shoemaker returned last Friday from Gothenburg and Lincoln after visiting a schoolmate Miss Ethel May of Evanston North Western University. She also spent time with Mary Hayes and Eva and Mary Lobb of Lincoln, former Sidney girls.
Commissioner N. H. Troelstrup has sold his fine three section ranch one mile south of Potter and invested in nearby land. The county appreciates and needs such men, and hopes he will remain in the area.
Dave Huff and his wife are once more installed in the courthouse as caretakers. The public may view the edifice with pride as it returns to pristine condition, a relief after a previous era that pleased taxpayers who funded the fine structure.
A stranger faced treason charges at the county court house after making leading remarks at the round house. United States Commissioner Oberfelder granted a hearing, held the man until Thursday, then released him.
A social stage piece questions if a beautiful nightclub temptress will settle for honest marriage. The play Any Man's Sister presents a vivid portrayal arguing yes, at Tobin Opera House on Friday June 16th tonight.
In Sidney a Red Cross tag day is planned for Saturday with thirty volunteers patrolling the streets to urge donations. The appeal stresses pay what you can, from twopence to a hundred dollars, aiding wartime relief and the suffering of women, children, and the sick, with proceeds used for operating expenses.
