Thornburg Grimes completed a horse trade. Ben owns a fine carriage. Rev N H Miles of Sidney installed a Deluge pump for A B Berg near Dix. Thornburg Luplow report new goods arriving daily. Annual school meeting next Monday to elect moderator director treasurer. levy expected to be light. Sheep shearing finished. wool prices improving. Rejoicing over three weeks of rainfall. grain and grass jumpy with bountiful crop prospects.
Special correspondence notes Mr Lamprey is on the sick list but hopes he will recover soon. The quarterly meeting was a success with strong attendance and positive reports from members.
Special correspondence from Lodge Pole reports rains and lush pastures with duck ponds across the table land. North Platte sculptor Starkane continues statuary work as merchants see improved business. Henry mentions a shower and hail with crops fair, school election notices, and local farming activity and travel to Yellowstone Park.
Lisco reports daily showers easing drought concerns. Jesse Pearson visited Sidney on June 15 and 15 inst. L Z Spindler also visited Sidney last week. J P Krum received goods from the R R station. Spindler’s mare was bitten by a rattlesnake on June 15. Snakes are plentiful. Mrs Sprague closed a three months term with a picnic, parents and school board attending. She may teach here next fall.
The Cheyenne County Teacher's Institute began with sixty teachers, expected to rise to eighty or ninety as attendees join from the Summer Normal at Lodge Pole. Instructors Prof. W. J. McCoy and Mrs. Julia Shelton lead sessions aligned with the state course, with a three year plan and diploma for regular participants. A courthouse program is planned next Wednesday with music and recitations to encourage educators. The Maccabees in Nebraska report about 2000 members with adjustable life insurance, and Sidney Tent No. 29, two years old, has ~20 members and growing amid hard times.
J E Killen of Cheyenne county writes from Philadelphia June 12 praising the June 8 issue. He urges every Western Nebraska farmer to read it and suggests mailing copies to farmer friends abroad to promote local agricultural interests.
Sidecy Tent No 20 hosted families and friends for a supper and social time in observance of the 14th anniversary. The Maccabees, formed in 1881, grew to about 200000 members and have paid nearly 5 million dollars to families of deceased members in fourteen years.
In the southern city, twenty young people gathered Thursday at the Jones home for a complimentary evening for Miss Mabel Gast and Miss Allie Green. Supper, ice cream, and cake followed by games and witty discourse kept guests entertained until late.

A group of twenty women met at Mrs. C. Davis residence to organize a local lodge of the Order of the Eastern Star. They aim to institute the lodge next week with the Grand Matron of the state expected to conduct the ceremony.
