The Bayard area reports widespread rainfall with crop prospects improving. Farmers describe abundant wheat and corn potential, while gophers cause damage and hail strikes injure vegetables but spare grain. Local events include a June 25 moderator election and community gatherings at the Transcript office.
Rain drenches Mud Springs and Lisco causing postponement of Children’s Day exercises. Reports from John McIntosh’s claim show crop vigor despite wet weather. The Cheyenne County Teachers Association met at Redington on June 1 to discuss papers on starting country schools grading seating morals and patriotism. Mrs Waitman and others presented papers with group discussions highlighting record keeping daily programs seating and moral instruction. The Redington hosts were thanked for hospitality and interest.
Residents living more than one and a half miles from their district school may transfer attendance to the adjoining district under a set law. Parents must file a notice with the county superintendent before the annual meeting, verified by a registered voter, and directors must enumerate transferred wards in the new district for the coming school year. The county clerk then shifts the tax levy to the adjoining district, excluding existing bonds interest.

The ninth annual Cheyenne County Teacher's Institute will meet at the school house for two weeks starting Monday morning. Conducted by W J McCoy of Salt Lake and Mrs. Julia Shelton, the program includes arithmetic reading algebra language geography bookkeeping geometry history philosophy grammar botany and more with divided sessions and a noon intermission.
The women’s auxiliary hosted an evening of pleasing entertainment and supper at the Griffith residence in Port Sidney. A musical program featured piano duets, vocal solos, and instrumental pieces, followed by a ball in the adjoining room. Refreshments included strawberries, ice cream, cake, and coffee. receipts totaled about $35.00.
Sheriff’s daughter reports a clipping from the Los Angeles Herald about the death of Horace W. Belden once thought a murder. Coroner’s jury exonerates a man named Button who was accused of causing the death amid jealousy over his wife. Bolden claimed parents in Sidney Nebraska. clipping sent to locate them. Also mentions Union Pacific travel ads and a lost dog notice.
A court house meeting to organize a city Fourth of July celebration appointed Judge Pease as chair and Fred Dawson as secretary. A nine member committee was named with sub committees for finance entertainment and events. Plans include a forenoon musical program an ovation and afternoon games races baseball and a skating rink display. Committees to reconvene Monday evening to finish arrangements.
