Ground breaks for Sidney hotel in city on Ninth Avenue

Ground was broken this morning for the $300000 Sidney hotel motel at Ninth Avenue and Jackson Street. The two story structure will begin excavation immediately with Chester Johnson of Mullen Nebraska to build and operate the hotel and Ralph Olsen to supervise construction. Johnson said he will likely bring in three or four men from his organization and local workers will be recruited if price is right. Board chairman Neal Atkins said interim financing through The American National Bank is arranged and the hotel corporation will use its own funds for initial work, with $150000 from the lender to be drawn as needed. The hotel will have 51 units plus a banquet room, coffee shop and lounge. Plans have been revised several times since money was raised seven years ago.
