Lincoln Stamp Will Be Most Popular Denomination In Use
SYD KRONISH notes that beginning Aug 1 the lavender 4-cent Lincoln stamp will be the most used for first class mail. It reproduces Abraham Lincoln from a Volk portrait, housed at the National Gallery, and will supplant the 3-cent Statue of Liberty. Issued Nov 19, 1954, about nine billion 4-cent Lincoln stamps are expected to be used annually, with the 7-cent air mail stamp also mentioned.

Insects Have Ears On Elbows and Surprising Feats
In a new book by Dr. Ross E. Hutchins of Mississippi State College readers learn that katydids hear with front elbow nerves and grasshoppers hear on the sides of their abdomens. The text notes an ant can lift 52 times its weight and some bottles 850 times their own weight. The Ammophila wasp uses a pebble to tamp dirt as its only insect tool.
