Federal Highway Designation Goal Spurs Plains Route Plan
Almost a hundred delegates from six states closed a three day convention in Hot Springs South Dakota urging federal designation for a route from Canada to Mexico through the Great Plains. The group backed US 851 and will ask state engineers to submit the plan by September 15.

Mrs. Frank J. Pool 68, died at her farm home near Sidney after months of illness. A Cheyenne County resident most of life, she moved to Dalton with her parents at age three. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Townsend. burial in Dalton Cemetery. Survived by husband Frank Jay Pool. daughters Lois Ellis and Elsie Planck. five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. sister Mrs. Marshall Larkins. brother Stephen B. Hopkins.

Born November 14 1881 in Archer Wyo she moved to Lodgepole in 1897 and married John J Zalesky in 1911. Survivors include three daughters Lillian Arbuckel Dorothy Rose Charlotte Booth. six sons Robert Clarence Arlie Millard Delmar John. 23 grandchildren. two sisters and three brothers. Farmers in 38 states vote Friday on continuing marketing quotas for wheat as a 1959 crop measure. If approved, quotas cap marketings to 55 million acres with penalties around $1.05 a bushel for excess sales and support at not less than 75 percent parity. rejection could drop the rate to 50 percent parity.

Vandals Hit Several Sidney Cars in Recent Nights
Sidney police report multiple vandalism incidents injuring at least three vehicles. Mrs Askvarex’s car at 1707 Sioux Villa had a broken trunk latch. Tom Powell’s car at the 12th Ave and Jackson St lot lost an aerial, windshield wiper blade and arm, plus a fuel permit and sunglasses. Mrs Curless’s car at 745 Illinois St was entered Saturday night with a broken vent window and cigarettes scattered inside.

Weather Update From Sidney Area Shows Wet Weekend
The CAA station at Sidney airport recorded 0.27 inches of moisture over the weekend with 0.19 Friday night and 0.08 Saturday. Dorman area north of town reported 1.35 inches while the weather bureau noted the storm moved north and more rain likely in the city. Temperatures ranged from a high near 81 to a low around 50 with May totals about 1.59 inches and June approaching 1.99 inches. Forecast calls for fair to partly cloudy skies tonight and Tuesday with scattered T-storms and temperatures near 80 by day and 50 by night.

D. R. Thomas In Fair Condition After Heart Attack
D. R. Thomas, a well known Sidney timberman, is in fair condition at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack while playing cards at a friend's home. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital after collapsing at a local doctor’s office. The doctor notes no visitors will be allowed for at least a week or longer.

Rumbaugh Links Police Efforts to Track Tornadoes
