Hospital Chief Frank Harris resigns Sidney post

Frank Harris, administrator of Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital before its 1955 opening, resigns. He told the hospital board last week, which will act Wednesday evening to appoint a committee to interview candidates for the administrator role. Harris may stay in hospital administration or seek other work aligned with his training. He arrived in Sidney over two years ago and previously helped finalize construction and drafted room furnishing lists including equipment for kitchens, laundry, pharmacy and other departments.

Three New Oil Field Locations Announced In Cheyenne County

New drilling sites announced include Kerr-McGee Fleming No 1 in the O Connell Field and Benish No 1 in the Juelfs Field. Additional tests by Ohio Oil Co on Rauner No 1 yielded salt water. Anderson No 1 showed sand but no oil. several other wildcat and confirmed wells are planned or underway across Kimball, Banner, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sioux, and Deuel counties with multiple companies listed.

Weekend Rain Boosts Wheat Moisture Across Cheyenne County

Rain and light hail drenched most of Cheyenne County over the weekend with scattered thundershowers aiding the winter wheat crop. The heaviest totals fell in the southern half with Lodgepole and Gurley area readings around 1.4 inches, Sidney airport 0.59 inches, and Potter 0.51 inches. Farmers say moisture is adequate but desire fair weather for heads to fill as harvest moves from eastern Nebraska into western Kansas and near the Panhandle.

Life Saving Classes Start July 18 Under Red Cross

Adult and children life saving classes will start July 18 led by Arlina Hart, announced by county Red Cross Water Safety chair Mrs Vern Anthony. Instructors note three class levels for Sidney children this morning: Non-Floaters not yet swimming, Floaters who can float but not swim, and Beginners not yet intermediate swimmers.

None Injured In 3 Auto Accidents Over The Weekend

Three weekend crashes left no injuries. At 23rd Ave and Jackson St two Sidney men, David Grabe and Jack Hutchinson, caused extensive front and rear damage respectively, with both cars towed. A hill country road rollover near Potter injured none and damage was $600. A three car chain reaction east of Sidney on Highway 30 damaged all involved, with total damage $360.

Two Sidney Youths Enlist In The Navy

Two Sidney youths, Robert Lee Glaubitz and Charles B. Harris, have enlisted in the U S Navy. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Harris, will be transferred to the U S Navy School of Music after recruit training. Glaubitz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glaubitz and was assigned to the Navy Receiving Station in Washington DC.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff's office reports theft of gasoline from two tractors owned by Cliff Herbolds her, Potter, occurring Saturday night. The incident was reported this morning by the sheriff's office.

Farmers Co op Grain Co. to Hold Annual Meeting

The Farmers Co op Grain Co. will hold its annual meeting for stock holders in the Sidney Auditorium basement on Wednesday evening. Dinner is served at 6 30 p m with the business meeting starting at 8 pm. Door prizes and free movie tickets will be given to the wives and children of stockholders at the meeting.
