Majority Out Of Compliance As Crop Prospects Shared

Cheyenne County wheat farmers exceed federal noncompliance in a record count. Of 1,336 farms, 1,167 were overseeded. 137 destroyed, with about 100 more wheat destroyed or to be by nightfall. Compliance unlocks soil bank payments up to 6 per acre for nonpaid cases and 1.17 per bushel for destruction to enter the program.

Sidney Urges Immediate Airline Service to North South East

Nebraska official Rolland Harr testifies before the Civil Aeronautics Board that Sidney is among 13 Nebraska cities needing immediate air service. He outlines routes including Denver to Scottsbluff via Sidney and a Denver to Omaha east-west line with stops at Sidney Alliance and North Platte. Revised Dog Law Slated For Passage In Sidney

The Sidney City Council plans to pass an amended dog ordinance next Monday night. The measure would require owners to prevent pets from running loose and pay a keep fee if dogs are picked up. Owners remain liable for damage to lawns and plants, with enforcement by police.

Man Who Claims He Is Dead Eating Regularly In City Jail

A 46 year old man who told Sidney Police Chief Sol Willis he was legally dead is eating two meals a day in the Sidney jail. Robert Paul Rodberg a construction worker and painter was held on a California felony warrant for failure to provide for two minor children. California officials say Rodberg left his wife and two daughters last year and had died in Texas on December 8, 1948. investigators did not confirm the death and Rodberg now faces extradition negotiations between Nebraska and California governors.

Methodists To Have 2-Man Church Team In Sidney

The First Methodist Church of Sidney appoints two ministers as a ministerial team for the first time. Rev. Homer P. Bollinger will head membership evangelism and education while Rev. RL Townsend oversees worship missions and finance. Bollinger, from Osceola, has led a $107000 new church project and held multiple church roles.

Hail Strikes North Table in Cheyenne County Damage

Severe hail battered the North Table area with heavy rain and a belt of destruction from Huntsman east to Sidney. Two inches of rain were recorded near Huntsman and up to half an inch in Sidney, with extensive crop and field damage across the hail belt. More storms were forecast for this evening.

Formerly pastor at the Christian Church in Oakland Iowa since 1951 he served in the Navy after 1943 and earned two BA degrees from Phillips University. He and wife Alice Thompson have three children and have been active in Iowa church work.

Parole Violators Face Immediate Sentencing in Cheyenne Jail

Two men, Oren W. McHarness and Gerald Reinmuth, remained in Cheyenne County Jail awaiting a district judge. Both allegedly violated probation conditions and face immediate sentencing to a state penal institution without a hearing. McHarness had just returned from Gering after arrest for writing bad checks. Reinmuth, paroled for breaking and entering a motor vehicle, was said to have stolen clothing at Sioux Ordnance Depot over the weekend.

Julesburger Cited On False Pretense Charge in Court

Julesburg businessman James W. Clausen pleaded innocent in Cheyenne County Court to receiving merchandise under false pretenses. He was taken off a train at North Platte, posted a 1500 dollar bond, and a preliminary hearing was set for 10 AM June 28. He allegedly bought a 1951 truck from Thel Larson of Sidney for 1500 and then stopped payment on the 1500 check.

New Fairgrounds Building Doubtful This Year

Cheyenne County fairgrounds may not see a new multi purpose building this year despite plans approved by the county fair board. The proposed concrete block structure with a steel roof would include a stage and kitchen facilities and cost several thousand dollars. Board secretary Lowry Lindell says finances will be discussed at the next county commissioners meeting, with $1500 already placed in escrow by Ak Sar Ben, the Omaha civic group.

University of Nebraska State Museum field party led by Tanner begins exploration of Uptegrove No. 2 fossil pit near Sidney Nebraska. County Road Permit Setup Sought by Truckers

Oil field truckers pressed for full over weight, over length permits from the Nebraska State Highway Department to cover county roads in addition to state highways. A special meeting with District Highway Engineer Tom Middleswart and Cheyenne Kimball Scotts Bluff county officials followed a ruling that county permits are illegal, though counties still issue them. If approved, truckers would obtain full permits from the state and notify county officials of routes to be used.
