All Breed Horse Show set for Sunday in Sidney
The 13th annual All Breed Horse Show, sponsored by Lodgepole Valley Saddle Club, runs Sunday at the club arena in Sidney. Events start 9 a.m. with halter and performance classes plus a Tiny Tots demo and a new hide race. Judges include Dick Van Pelt. co-chairs are Jeri Maddox and Janet Nelson. guests include Alys Lafler, Pat Haack, Beth Glassburn, and Jeri Jeffries.

Results from the Cheyenne County Invitational Horse Show in Sidney on June 12 list winners across divisions and events. Senior Division honors include All Around Boy Marty McMillen and All Around Girl Gay Kiester with showmanship to McMillen and Kiester, horsemanship to Kiester, and several riders earning ribbons in poles, barrels, and reining. Junior and intermediate divisions follow with multiple named riders earning blue red and white ribbons. The Sidney Wranglers compete June 18 for halter, showmanship and horse judging, with winners eligible for the State Horse Show in July.

Trials to open for America’s Cup defender selection
Newport Rhode Island UP I reports the first trial races to pick a defender for the America’s Cup will start Saturday with 12 meter yachts to be announced at a 6 p m meeting aboard the committee boat at Goat Island. The Swedish Australian and French challengers will start their trials August 4.

Open at Southern Hills Leaves Leaders Amid Narrow Scores
At the U S Open in Tulsa a clouded, breezy day kept scoring modest as seven players tied for the lead at 69 or better, led by Rod Funseth Terry Diehl Larry Nelson Hubert Green Florentino Molina Grier Jones and Tom Purtzer with others within two strokes. Jack Nicklaus shot 74 and lamented scoring struggles while Arnold Palmer surged to 70 with a 30 yard chip for birdie and Lee Trevino Tom Watson Ben Crenshaw Sam Snead and Hale Irwin also posted solid rounds. Gary Player and defending champion Jerry Pate stood at 72 while Weiskopf and Prothro reshaped expectations for the second round. The course’s tough pin placements forecast a long week as Green pursues his first major title.
