Victory for kids as bond passes for new pool in Sidney

Mayor Lee Ellen Matzke hailed the bond approval as a win for the children after an unofficial tally showed 927 votes for and 233 against the 149 500 bond issue to build a larger swimming pool in Legion Park. Contracts will hire architects to begin summer construction if funds allow.

HUD documents reviewed at Sidney housing meeting

Three HUD required documents will be reviewed at a Sidney Housing Authority special meeting in the City Council chambers Wednesday night. Council members began Monday and may reject changes via city attorney Jack Peetz, delaying the Western Heritage Village opening. About 30 applications by Monday show mixed interest. occupancy hoped by Aug 1 with income rules per HUD.

Rural Fire At Bruinweed Blamed On Wiring Failures

A $100,000 rural blaze at Mrs Harold Lyngholm's home one mile south of Bruinweed is likely from grounding wires in an outlet box to the yard light or garbage disposal. The fire started behind the sink and smoldered for hours behind lath and plaster walls and asbestos siding. Deputy marshal Cerny cautioned lightning could not be ruled out but is less probable. No occupants were home. detector absence would have delayed early warning. Fire officials, including Jerry Lawson, recreated burn patterns to determine the cause. They warned equipment shortages hinder rural fires, noting a 750 gpm tanker could have reduced damage.

Scottsbluff voters reject fire station and park bonds

Scottsbluff voters soundly defeated a 650000 fire station and a 250 acre wilderness park in a special election. 1652 voted against the fire station and 758 for it while 1858 opposed the park and 516 supported it.

Sidney Council to weigh preliminary budget plan Wednesday

United Fund Sets 1977 Drive Budget and Recipients

United Fund lowers its 1977 campaign budget to 15 650 dollars, down 1 100 from last year. Eleven designated recipient groups include the Red Cross 1 800 Kings Daughters 1 500 Muscular Dystrophy 800 USO 200 National Travelers Aid 150 Arthritis Foundation 700 Salvation Army 2 000 Boy Scouts 3 000 Girl Scouts 2 000 and Lodgepole Valley 4H Youth Camp 31 000. Changes from last year add 400 to Red Cross and deduct 500 from Kings Daughters and 1 000 from Boy Scouts.

Turnout at Willard School pool bond election reaches 36 percent

Turnout reached 36 percent as LaVern Draper became the 100th voter at Francis Willard School on Tuesday. Election officials at the table included Mrs. Francis Hiner and Mrs. James Skrdlant, with voters turning out for the pool bond issue.
