Wheat Referendum Polling Places Listed for June 20 Vote

Cheyenne County voters will choose market wheat quotas for 1959 on June 20. Polls open 8 am to 8 pm at ten sites including Town Hall and ASC Office. Voters may cast ballots outside their precinct with eligibility checked. two thirds approval keeps quotas with price support at not less than $1.81 per bushel, otherwise about $1.20.

Partly cloudy tonight and Saturday with showers and storms

The forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions tonight and Saturday with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows near 56 tonight and highs around 75 on Saturday. The five day outlook shows daytime temperatures around the 80s and nighttime lows in the 30s with precipitation averaging one half to one inch as showers and storms occur.

Died Wednesday Near Peetz Farmed South of Sidney

Nickalas Brachtenbach 73 died at home in Sidney after months of declining health. A Cheyenne County resident for 50 years he farmed near Sidney close to the Colorado line for 44 years. Born August 6 1884 in Chicago he came to Sidney in 1908 and married Katie Lenzen in 1917. Funeral 9 am Saturday at St Patrick's Sidney with Father Gilmarten. burial Greenwood. rosary 8 pm Friday Gehrig and Son. Survived by wife Katie seven children 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild plus many relatives.

Oil field record set as 48 tests listed in two states

In the Colorado Nebraska area 48 new tests were listed this week a new 1958 regional record. The tally includes 15 new Nebraska locations with multiple wells in Banner Kimball and Cheyenne counties. Notable drillings include Nolte Mather Young and Anderson fields with wildcat test details and several dry holes as crews push a ten-well Cheyenne County series.

Wrecks East of Sidney Leave Several Damaged

Two crashes in the Route 30 area east of Sidney within 24 hours damaged four vehicles. George J. Kavanaugh of Sidney and Dale E. Brinkman of Wheaton Illinois collided first with minor damage. A second collision involved Earl Bishop of Sidney and Raymond H. O'Dell with Francis Hiner injured. O'Dell's truck $100 damage and Bishop's car $350. Patrolman Felix Koenig investigated.

Chadron Opens Tourist Booth on Third Street

Chadron Chamber of Commerce opens a summer information booth on Third Street in front of the Chicoine used car lot. The pink air conditioned booth offers tourist information to travelers while the Chamber office at City Hall closes for the season.

Forced Landing In Big Springs Field

Major and Mrs. George Eldridge and four children on a Salina Kansas to California flight made an unscheduled forced landing in a wheat field on the Ervin Koehler farm near Big Springs due to engine trouble. No injuries or damage reported. While the plane was towed away the family dined at Elvin Zimmerman’s home before resuming the trip.

Scouts Sell Pepper to Support Camp Trip

Boy Scouts of Troop 83 will sell cans of black pepper on Saturday to raise funds for a camp trip to Laramie Peak on June 22. Nine of fifteen scouts are available if funds are met. $17 per boy covers a week at camp, with a half pound can priced at $1.

Three Pay Fines In Police Court

Erma Stewart of Sidney failed to appear in police court to face a disturbance charge. Judge Bart Taylor ordered bond of $14 forfeited. Jerome M. Ricwe, Sidney, charged with speeding was given a fine of $10 and paid $4 costs in police court today. Samuel B. Stone, of Oklahoma City forfeited a $14 bond on a charge of disturbance here.
