Power Outage Near Sidney After Engine Fails
Sidney experienced a brief power outage Monday afternoon when the Nordberg engine lost oil pressure and tripped, cutting power for three and a half to five minutes in parts of the city. Officials switched to Diesel as backup engines started gradually, with City Manager Murrey Fuller noting no anticipated further trouble and that the remaining three engines can carry the load if needed.

Civil Defense Alert Mocked in Nebraska Towns
Sidney and the Sioux Ordnance Depot joined a nationwide Civil Defense Alert Monday morning. Sirens sounded at 9:10 in Sidney and 9:30 at the Depot, ending about ten minutes later. Bob Clark said the local drill was a mock procedure with no evacuations, designed to test communications and spur thoughtful public reaction. Signals were relayed from Chappell to Sidney, then to the SOD and Kimball.

State JC Caravan Passes Through Sidney
The Nebraska Jaycee caravan heading to the national convention in Colorado Springs toured Sidney on Monday. Thirty cars, plus two donated 1954 Chevrolets driven by Dan Duncan and Niel Hughes families, stopped at 8:50 a.m. for rest. Sidney merchants funded the float promoting Nebraska Quality Beef and Husker Burgers for the parade.

New 494 mile crude oil line planned from Merino to Great Bend
A joint project of Sinclair Pipe Line Co and Pure Oil Co will build a 494 mile crude oil pipeline from Merino Colorado to Great Bend Kansas with an 18 inch main line and 20 inch feeder to Humboldt. The system will start with one pumping station at Merino and have an initial capacity of 80000 barrels per day. The run will join the Big Inch line at Humboldt and feed Chicago and St Louis refineries.

The municipal swimming pool will be closed Tuesday for repairs after a leaking filter was reported. The issue cannot be fixed without draining the pool.
Potter Lady Died Sunday Funeral Rites Held Wednesday
Mrs. Geo. Juelfs, 72, of Potter, died Sunday at her daughter’s home in Richland Nebraska after two years of declining health. Funeral services were set for 2 pm Wednesday at the Potter Lutheran Church with Craig Mortuary in charge. Burial will be beside her husband in Potter Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to the cancer fund in lieu of flowers. Surviving are two sons Lloyd of Potter and Richard of Dalton, two daughters Mrs. McMillian of Richland and Mrs. Jessie Rogers of Beaver City, two brothers John Peterson of Lusk Wyoming and Gus Peterson of Hot Springs South Dakota, and one sister Mrs. Carrie Waterman of Denver.
