Sidney approves 1967 68 school budget over one million

The Sidney Public School system approves a budget of 1 066 491 for 1967 68, up 73 033 from 1966 67. The increase mainly funds salaries and Social Security hikes, with projected tax and state and federal aid detailed by Supt. Russell Pedersen.

New Christian Minister Will Serve Sidney

The Rev. Ellis J. Wotan, pastor of Shenandoah First Christian Church, will fill the Sidney First Christian pulpit temporarily. He has served in multiple pastorates and the U S Marine Corps in the South Pacific. he was ordained in 1941 and has six children. The Wotans arrive tomorrow and he will lead Sunday worship.

Centennial Antique Car Tour Parade At Cheyenne County

About 50 antique cars will enter the Centennial Tour Aug 19 20 hosted by Trailblazers Antique Auto Club as part of Cheyenne County's Centennial Celebration. Entries come from Colorado cities and local towns with events in Sidney including a 1 PM fashion parade and evening banquet at the Elks Club.

Cheyenne County Sheriff Ker mit Brumbaugh says Ronald Farrington, alias Bob Hudson, was arrested in St. Joseph Missouri. He is charged with larceny by bailee for allegedly diverting wheat from elevators at Lorenzo Potter and other points.

Lightning Strikes Baum Bach Home. Power Knocked Out

A lightning bolt hit a tree in the Baum Bach residence at 1722 Osage or Tuesday early morning, tearing bark, blowing the fuse box lid, and damaging outlets and walls. No fire. Neighbors woke to the crash. the Baumbachs used a phone to call the fire department.

Dalton theft suspect held for preliminary hearing

Clay ton Walker Jr. 35 faces breaking and entering and carrying a concealed weapon charges after a break in at a Dalton trailer home occupied by his ex-wife's parents Ike and Mrs. Miller. He fled with cash and jewelry, was found in Alliance area, and arrested near Bridgeport while hitchhiking en route to Alliance before arraignment in Sidney.

United Oil plans Lodgepole area drilling despite weather

United Oil Co of Lincoln intends to drill No 1 State in eastern Cheyenne County near Lodgepole if roads allow. Heavy rainfall has created a large intermittent lake hindering access as Nebraska oil production nears one million barrels monthly while May drilling lagged across seven counties. Sterling Drilling seeks water flood recovery in Eddy Field and Apollo Exploration requests a drilling exception near O Connell Field in Cheyenne County.

Airport to Get VORTAC System at Sidney Airport

Bids will be opened in about two weeks for a VORTAC installation at Sidney Municipal Airport. Construction cost for the building under $25,000 with equipment around $200,000. The system will aid pilots by establishing bearings and position relative to the field and replace an existing directional system six miles west. FAA says the new VORTAC will modernize the airport’s services for private and commercial aircraft.

Clyde Gorsuch Dies at 47 in Kimball Rites

Clyde L. Gorsuch of Sidney dies at Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne aged 47. He served in World War I and is survived by a widow Norma McDowell and three sons, plus nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home in Kimball with military graveside rites.

Nebraska sales tax partly blamed for a 34320 expenditure by Sidney for a new bookkeeping machine from National Cash Register Co. Six months for delivery, council cites tax rules and aging gear. Also approved 197017 in building permits including hospital addition, repealed dancing hour limits, planned off street parking purchase for 3400, bought a 1500 tandem roller, and set 830 DST meeting start. Housing authority then set June 26 as last day for supervisor-caretaker applicants for Sioux Villa residence.

Panhandle Weather Forecast Shows Showers Ahead

Weather outlook calls for showers and thunderstorms tonight and Thursday afternoon with highs near 70. Lows around mid 40s to mid 50s and rain chances about 80 percent tonight and 30 percent Thursday. Five day trend: temperatures 2 to 8 degrees below normal, highs 70 to 75, lows 45 to 50 with frequent showers.
