The 1967 spring seals a wet season with over 10 inches in Cheyenne County and widespread rainfall reports across Dalton Sidney Lodgepole Gurley and Potter. Ground saturation is high and ongoing construction stalls amid frequent thundershowers and hail damage to local wheat.
The Sidney education and government affairs committee discussed creating a community center in Sidney. A YMCA or youth service center was proposed following a suggestion from Cecil Stanley of the State Department of Education. Mrs Edna Caroline William Gorman 75 died June 8 in Buhl Idaho while visiting her two sons. Born Oct 9 1891 in Sidney she lived in Cheyenne and Kimball counties. Services were held today at the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church burial Greenwood Cemetery. Survived by two sons two daughters eight grandchildren ten great grandchildren and many siblings.
Nebraska spring pheasant numbers are down from past years per a survey by rural mail carriers for the Game Commission. Declines may reflect cover and vegetation differences and a very dry spring causing pheasants to stay in heavier roadside cover.
Col Cyril P Williams is reassigned to lead Sioux activity at Pueblo Army Depot pending the Mid East crisis, returning to Sidney last weekend. The duration hinges on the regional situation with a June 30 depot closure in view, and he thanks Maj Ralph E Campbell Jr for duty during his absence. He and his wife will reside in Sidney.
Cattle brought $31.25 and hogs topped $22 at the Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion on Saturday. Steers 390-500 lb fetched $30.40 to $31, 295 with heavier 680-740 lb steers at $26.60 to $26.80. Heifers 450-585 lb sold $23.75-$27.90, butcher cows $17-$18.30, cow and calf pairs $225, and hogs 200-250 lb $22 with top buyers. Consignments were light due to weather and road conditions.
