Legislature OKs Higher Nebraska Speed Limits
The Nebraska Legislature approved a bill by 22 to 19 to raise the day limit to 65 mph and the night limit to 55 mph. Governor Victor Anderson is expected to sign, with the new law taking effect 90 days after adjournment, barring trucks over five tons whose limit remains at 50 mph. Sen. A. A. Dater Lands with Reds After Sidney Tryout Camp
Edwin F. Dater of Garden City Kansas signed a pro contract with Cincinnati after leading the Big Seven with a .405 batting average in 1956. The 21 year old right handed outfielder and third baseman will report to the Class C Wausau club in the Northern League next Friday. Cincinnati scout Phil Seghi announced the signing and praised Dater’s power potential while noting the Sidney camp hosted hopefuls from Kansas Colorado Wyoming and Nebraska. Seghi said the camp was worthwhile and plans to return next year if conditions allow.

Two fatal incidents shock Sidney. Eight-year-old Dale Atkins was killed in an alley crash near the Methodist Church as he rode home from Bible school. Joan Simpson, 24, of Sidney, driving a 1950 car, failed to see him until too late. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at the First Methodist Church.

Big Springs Gas Plant to Be Built in Nebraska
Kansas Nebraska Gas Co., plans a 1 million dollar Big Springs gasoline plant at its compressor station in western Nebraska. The project will process 35 million cubic feet of natural gas daily, producing propane, butane and natural gasoline, with completion expected October 1.

The Sidney Municipal Swimming Pool in Legion Park was set to open tomorrow if weather and water temperature permit. The season began late to accommodate the Cincinnati Reds tryout camp, and the natatorium stayed closed briefly to avoid ball hazards.
