Cool Front Drops Temperatures and Injures Worker

Bert Lee Sivesind a county road grader operator, was injured when his left hand was dragged into a conveyor belt at a county road north east of Gurley. He was found unconscious, treated for belt burns and cuts, and hospitalized overnight before returning home to recover. Weather notes report a 29 degree drop with a high of 80 in Sidney and a forecast of mild, partly cloudy skies.

Prizes Expanded for Fort Sidney Kids Parade

Jaycee co chairs Carl Schmidt and Bob Bowman announced additional prizes for the Fort Sidney Days Kids Parade on Friday morning June 20. Prizes include 10 dollars for best pony entry and best bicycle entry, plus 10 7 and 5 dollar awards in artistic and historical categories. Each entrant will receive a prize and judges named Mrs Hess Mrs Jorgenson Bart Williamson John Elwell Sr and Ed Short will judge.

4-H District Camp Fees Due Friday

County Extension Office announces deadline for camp registration at Mitchell. Fees are six dollars per member for the four day session June 16 to 19, with activities including handicrafts nature study sports and hikes.

Grasshoppers Plague Colorado But Are Not Dangerous Here

Grasshoppers infested Colorado threaten Cheyenne County Nebraska with 15 per square yard or more triggering spraying. Ivan Liljegren and Charles Stonecipher surveyed about twenty farms, finding widespread but variable counts. Aldrin is recommended. federal and state aid may fund range-land spraying, split costs three ways, if eligible.

Thieves Steal 168 Beers From Elmer's Tavern

Thirsty thieves pried open a rear window of Elmer's Tavern at Lodgepole and took seven cases of beer. Mrs. Elmer Phelps reported the break-in to Sheriff W. W. Schulz. No other loss or damage was noted by investigators.

Scottsbluff to Host VFW Meet Starting Sunday

Scottsbluff will host the 28th VFW State Convention from Sunday June 15 following registration and events. Louis Feldmann of Hazleton Pa is junior vice commander in chief and Ray H Brannaman of Denver is past national commander in chief. Mrs R Lee Millican of Palatka Fla national chaplain and Buddy Poppy director of the Auxiliary will attend.

Chamber Meeting At Ordnance Plant Set For Tuesday

Sidney Chamber of Commerce members and other area businesspeople travel to Sioux Ordnance Depot for the quarterly meeting. The event, in SOC cafeteria at 6 30 p.m. Tuesday June 17, includes a Dutch Treat social hour, dinner at 6 30, and a post theater showing of The Pentomic Army. Reservations are due by Saturday noon.

Legislators Begin State Parks Survey Tour Across Nebraska

A seven member interim committee charged with surveying Nebraska state parks recreation areas and wildlife habitat will depart Lincoln for a week long state wide tour. Established by the 1957 legislature the panel will report back to the 1959 session. Flag Dedication At Park Diamond Set

Formal dedication of the American flag and flag pole at Legion park baseball diamond is scheduled before the opening of the Browns-Lowry Air Base game Friday night. Sterling youth injured in fall near Sidney

Marcus Albro nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Vern Albro rural Sidney residents was seriously hurt in a fall from a top of an abandoned Colorado Health Department building near the old airgrounds Marcus was visiting his grandmother Mrs Joseph Scheutter at 7th and Sidney Streets when the accident occurred He has a broken toe badly lacerated head and face wounds with fourteen stitches and possible internal injuries He attends St Patrick Academy in Sidney and his father works as a mechanic at the Sioux Ordnance Depot The family lives on Rural Route 1 near Sidney

Sidney Council Discusses Audit Police Cars And Carnival

The Sidney City Council met Monday night to approve a Fort Sidney Days carnival site on Hickory and grant a pool hall at 817 10th Avenue. They awarded the city audit to Witthoff and McIntosh, considered flood prevention terracing, prepared to bid two police cars, and set July 14 for a hearing on signs set-backs and zoning variances.

Research Project At Ewing Well Proves Logging Theories

Schlumberger and Shell Oil Co. fund a 50 000 pro ject at No 1 Ewing in Scotts Bluff County to study electric log interpretation at a dry hole. The team seeks to isolate streaming potential and separate it from electrochemical readings, using varying mud types and a control setting to refine oil exploration techniques. The No 1 Ewing, spudded May 21 by Jet Drilling Co., lies seven miles west of Gering on Dwight Ewing farm as part of a six well Shell wildcat series.

Fischer's Shop Opens Saturday Grand Opening

Fischer's Dra pery and Specialty Shop holds a grand opening at 10th and Pine this Saturday. Owners Ervin and his wife invite the public to inspect the new building featuring over 2000 fabrics and colors for custom draperies, DIY material, full drapery hardware, decorator pillows, shower curtains, bed spreads, Eagle-Picher aluminum storm doors and windows, with door prizes worth 40 dollars and free coffee and cookies. The Fischers previously ran the drapery department at Dorothy's Draperies located at 10th and Maple.

Backers Seek Retrial In District Court

George and Mollie Backer of Scottsbluff through attorneys seek a new trial over damage to Sidney property from the 13th Avenue underpass. A Cheyenne County District Court jury recently found the Backers were not injured by the underpass construction. The case has twice favored the city. The petition lists thirty one reasons for retrial.

Sidney Cafe Grand Opening Friday With Free Coffee
