Front end crash kills van driver in fiery ditch collision

Frances Craig reports a front end collision where a van veered into the north ditch, rolled onto its side and caught fire. The driver, found alive, died minutes later after being pulled from beneath the burning wreckage despite fighting equipment.

Judge Barlow Dies Burial Set For Monday

County Judge Robert A. Barlow of Cheyenne County died at 69 after weeks of failing health from heart trouble. Funeral at St. Patrick’s Church Monday at nine, burial in Sidney Cemetery. Survived by wife Grace Hart Barlow, four children, six grandchildren, two sisters, one brother. Appointive successor to be named by county commissioners until the next election for a short term. He began a new four year term last January.

Miss Wanda Westerhoff of Sidney is crowned Nebraska Lions Queen at the State Lions Convention in Fremont for 1953. She is 18, chosen for school, church, community and grace. Sidney Lions Club wins District 38 NI top honors and a set of International flags while district honors lead statewide. Delegates include Henn Spearow, George Kolzow, Wayne Ayres, Bob Clark, L. L.
