Timber is to be Planted in Nebraska Sand Hills
The World Herald reports that thousands of acres in Nebraska's sand hills are being planted with jack pine from Minnesota to reclaim land. The Forestry Bureau transports 100000 jack pine seedlings this spring to the Thedford area for experimental planting. Supervisors say pine will improve moisture, create mulch as needles fall, and eventually bring springs and streams, encouraging settlers to plant on their own land.
