The fourteenth annual Cheyenne County Teachers Institute meets July 9 to 19 in Sidney Neb. with sessions on civics physiology and book-keeping. Attendance is required for county teachers. renewal certificates possible for those with good grades.
Union Pacific offers a one fare round trip to Ogden and Salt Lake City from Missouri River with a $2 surcharge. Travel period June 1st to July 7th 10th inclusive, July 18th, and August 2d. Return limit October 31st, 1900. For details contact E R Breisch, Agent.
The Nebraska State Journal at Lincoln offers a two weekly edition promotion. Subscribe now and for 50 cents receive two papers per week through year end with news on national and state campaigns and two U.S. senators.
An advertising blurb touts Puritan flour as a premier baking choice, promising superior texture and performance. The copy urges consumers to select Puritan over competing brands for consistent results.
Camp Clarke reports Mr Wehn of Bayard traveling to Bridgeport to inspect the new telephone line. Rainfall over an inch floods the area while the river rises rapidly. Local activity includes branding by W D Watkins, building by George Robinson, canal headgates opened at Schermerhorn, and travels of Frank Smith Redington Paul Seabeck and Wm Wieland through the region.
Riverside notes report several visitors and arrivals from Bridgeport Oshkosh and the east with names including Bird Rodgers Charley Tolle Lee Wilmouth Mrs J Johnson and Edna and Anthony Johnson. Irrigation is active and much land remains under water.
Engineer Miller reports about nine thousand of fifteen thousand acres secured by options for the Farmers Irrigation district. He expects the full amount to be reached, with Mesars Harris Ellis and Henry secured, enabling construction to begin by mid July. Buffalo Bill Cody warns of a coming horse famine and urges farmers to breed horses for rising prices and demand.
Undersigned A. W. Atkins & Co warn they will not be responsible for or recognize any claim for debt incurred by any person in their employ or subcontractors unless such debt is on their written order. This notice preempts liability for unauthorized actions.
Land listing from W. C. Flinn offers a bargain sale of the section 83 plot in township 16 range 51. Price inquiries are welcome at the office.
A tract in the southwest quarter of section 8 township 13 range 48 is offered for sale at a reasonable price. Inquiries are to be made at the office.
Sidney braces for a large Fourth of July, aided by a new railroad, with a finishing grade and work train expected. A finance committee led by Frank Tobin backs efforts, while A D Stowitts chairs a mass meeting and is named fair association president. Committees cover parade, trades display, speaking, music, sports, races, and printing.
Five young women from Wolfe hall received diplomas in a morning ceremony. Miss Nagle led as valedictorian while Miss Jones gave the salutatory. the group includes Miss Lucy Jones of Sidney Nebraska Miss Lillian Patten Miss Dorothy Paulson of Manitou and Miss Alice Touhy. The crowd praised their poised and hopeful outlook.
Word arrives of a bold Saturday night raid at the King and Southgate sheep camp near Crook Cole. Two gunmen bound and gagged three men and a boy after guarding the scene and robbery. Jamies Lynch pursued and joined the chase. Lynch shot the robbers, killing one and wounding the other, then the attackers fled. The ranchman was not seriously hurt.
Railroad workers, car force personnel, and contractors move between Sidney Sherman Red Buttes and Aspen. The Guernsey line open next Monday marks completion from Alliance to the Wyoming iron district with further linkups to Brush and Denver lines. The new lines promise a boost in iron ore traffic and railroad activity.
Providence Chapter No 108 O E S installed officers Friday night June 1 with light refreshments. F D Hyde Lincoln funeral reported. William Urbach and Miss Carrien Nathan wed May 27 in Omaha. Gering Homestead sold to G E Mark. Dairy farm planned at Lapeer and separator station at Bridgeport. Baby girl born to A B Beard’s family. Camp Clarke bridge noted unsafe. Mrs E R Breisch hosted Eastern Star. Bayard seeks new school building.
Testimony from T. L. Martin of Dixie Kentucky describes severe nightly coughing until using Dr Kings New Discovery which relieved symptoms and he praises it for coughs colds throat and lung troubles. He notes a four year family use and guarantees with trial bottles free at W F Bassett’s drugstore.
Patent medicine ad claims a quick cure for colds using Laxative Bromo Quinine tablets. Advises refunds if it fails and notes a 25 cent price with the slogan The genuine L B Q on each tablet.
J. C. Neubauer and Miss Valeska Neubauer departed Friday evening for Denver to enroll in a normal school for a couple of months.
The Degree of Honor held a special Sidney meeting to surprise and honor member Mrs. L. H. Bordwell with a solid gold D o H pin. Jas L McIntosh presented the gift as about seventy five attendees enjoyed a musical program and ice cream and cake. Mrs. Bordwell and her daughter leave for Denver for health reasons, then will move to Spokane to live with two sons.
The program lists Modesto Quick March and Ripley Overture among pieces performed at an open air concert Friday June 8 starting at 7 00. selections include Darby Polka Clorinda Waltz Eli Green's Cake Walk and Tu ra ra boom der e with various performers noted.
Memorial services for deceased members of Sidney Lodge A. O. U. W. will be held Sunday evening June 10 at 8 o'clock in the K. of P. Hall. Members of the lodge and Degree of Honor and their families are invited to attend.

W. & W R.R. and small payments of one dollar or minor sums.
