Old Cannons Sought For Sioux Depot Museum

The Wheat Control Office in Kansas City predicts a minor rise in harvested winter wheat acres in Nebraska, perhaps under one percent. Harvest starts around July 1 in Holdrege and McCook, July 10 in Grant and Ogallala, July 15 in Sidney, and July 20 in Alliance. Overall 81 percent of the 1944-53 average, with 18,000 acres of spring wheat, slightly below last spring. Prospects are excellent in McCook, Grant, Ogallala, Sidney, and Alliance, but less favorable in central and eastern areas. Continuous moisture could yield another bumper crop in southwestern areas. Labor and machine demand peaks around July 10 in Southwestern Nebraska and July 15-20 in western regions. normal migrations should cover harvest needs.
