For the third year in a row the Air Force locates a weather observers unit at the Sioux Ordnance Depot. Team 12 of the 6th Weather Squadron from Tinker AFB Oklahoma moved from Bryan AFB Texas and is led by Staff Sergeant Waler N Slater. The team uses electronic gear to measure wind, temperature, humidity and other data up to 90 000 feet. Data feeds the Severe Weather Warning Center in Kansas City which issues tornado advisories.

A K Melton 96 father of Ernest Melton of Sidney died last night at the Lamar home of son Albert Jr. Funeral services will be held Monday at First Baptist Church Lamar. He visited Sidney after his wife’s death in December 1955 and he and his wife celebrated their 75th anniversary October 5 1955. He worked on Union Pacific construction in Sidney. Survivors include three daughters four sons 32 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Pedestrian Hit By Car Injures 78 Year Old Woman
Lena Carleton a 78 year old resident of Sidney was struck at 12th Avenue and Forrest Street and taken to Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. Driver Reuben W. Rose 60 said sun glare blinded him and he did not see her until she was almost in front of the car. Skid marks measured ten feet and Mrs Carleton suffered arm and hip bruises and shock.
