E S Stokes Dies In Sidney After Forty Two Years Of Service
Everett Samuel Stokes 72 a longtime Sidney resident died at home after a heart attack. Funeral set Friday at St Patrick's Catholic Church with burial in Sidney Cemetery. Rosary Thursday at 7 30 p m at the funeral home. He served 42 years with Union Pacific and was a telegrapher earlier with Pennsylvania Railroad. He was born December 25 1884 in Ohio and survived by wife Gertrude two children Mary died in infancy and Edward D Stokes four grandchildren. He was a Catholic, a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and a director of Sidney Federal Savings and Loan Association. He had lived in Sidney since 1915 and earlier in Brownsville Ohio and California towns.

A Nebraska Safety Patrol report cites a 1956 car hitting guard rails on the Sioux Ordnance Depot road around 1 10 a m Sunday. Driver Carl Herbert 24 of Sterling was uninjured. He said a northbound car crowded the center line forcing him into the rails.
