Danish Student To Study Wheat Farming Methods
A 25 year old Danish extension student Fred Kenuth arrives from Lincoln to study wheat farming in Cheyenne County. He will live with Emil Johnson and his son Lemoyne on the Johnson farm near Lodge Pole to observe planting and harvesting. He plans further study in California, then return to Denmark to teach at a college after about one year.

Lois Thorfinnson Mickle and John Flora held grade averages near 94 percent, with Mickle at about 93.7 and Flora at 8.25. Flora, who transferred from Midland College, majors in agronomy and plans to return to his father’s farm near Gurley after graduation. Several Causes Seen In Winter Loss Of Wheat
Nebraska wheat suffered extensive winter damage from drowning and water logged soils plus near zero temperatures after loss of winter hardiness. In eastern Nebraska most losses were tied to wet conditions while central wheat faced poor stands from dry soil and late emergence. In the west dry soil led to a poor start for much of the wheat.

Light and Phone Poles Sheared In Accident Near Dalton
A Western Nebraska Express truck left Highway 19 three miles south of Dalton during a rainstorm last Wednesday afternoon. It sheared off a telephone pole and damaged telephone and telegraph lines. Driver Donald Knotts, 19, of Gering, escaped injury. Vehicle damage was $20. line repair costs were about $50. Safety Patrolman from Bridgeport attributed the mishap to reduced visibility from the rain.

James Sparks Dead at 60 in Sidney Neb
James A Sparks 60 retired farmer died suddenly at 7 15 am Monday in a local hospital after a stroke at his home Sunday morning in Sidney. Funeral 2 30 pm Wednesday at First Methodist Church with Rev Walter L Jewett. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. He lived in Sidney 2 years at 1304 13th Ave. Survived by widow Karoline, three daughters, five grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

Kids Enjoy Lodgepole Creek Fishing Contest Winners
The annual Kids Fishing Contest at Legion Park Lodgepole Creek drew two to three hundred children. Only three bullheads were caught as fish reportedly fed well, but Daniel Willis won the 10 years and over class with a 12 inch bullhead weighing three quarters of a pound, Gerald Johnson with a 12 inch fish at one and a quarter pounds, and Harold Adels with an 8 inch fish at half a pound. Prizes went to the three winners.

Progress On Sidney Power Plant Expands Capacity
Completion of enlargements at the Sidney power plant is advancing as materials arrive. The main Diesel engine is in place, brick work is near completion, two more large fuel tanks will be sunk, and a strip of ground was purchased along the east boundary. The Fulton engine was bought last fall to relieve overload, with operation hoped by August irrigation peak.

Cloudburst Threat Hits Big Territory in Flood Path
Heavy rain swamped Sidney and Dalton causing downtown flooding and street closures. Two westbound Union Pacific passenger trains were held at Lodgepole amid washed track between Colton and Sunol. Sunol faced the heaviest blow with about five inches in an hour. Vehicles stalled on east Sidney pavement and at Sunol ditches, while relief efforts were mounted by sheriff’s deputies and highway patrol.
