Charles N. Deaver a prominent western Nebraska businessman farmer and rancher died Wednesday night after a long illness at 71 He lived in Cheyenne County since 1919 Funeral services are set for eight am Saturday at St Patrick's Catholic Church with Rev Stephen Deaver officiating Interment in Greenwood cemetery A parish rosary will be held Friday at 7 30 pm followed by Knights of Columbus rosary at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home Deaver a major grain dealer with Nebraska and Colorado holdings also led ranch and farming interests He was first president of The Sidney National Bank and a board member at his death A past president of the Nebraska Grain Dealers Assn He married Anne Novotny in 1917 in Fairbury who died in 1958 then married Agnes Proper in 1959 Survivors include wife Agnes two daughters Marcelline Murray Leawood Kansas and Velora Tomasello Lorenz Nebr one son Keith Colton Nebr one brother George Sidney one sister Ellen Courtney Sidney nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren He belonged to Knights of Columbus and Sidney Elks Lodge and helped Memorial Hospital’s planning construction He and the bank board announced June 5 bank hours would be 10 am to noon in respect to Mr Deaver
The Oasis Cafe in Sidney changes hands as Ed and Elma Swanson sell to Frances E. Bilby who will take possession July 1. The Swansons, who have run the business 14 years after moving from Kimball, will stay in Sidney and Ed will join Brandt Appraisal. Bilby’s husband works at the FAA office at the Sidney Airport.
Mrs. Mary Vosika 91 died June 2 at Memorial Rest Home Sidney. Services Saturday 10 a.m. at Craig Mortuary with Rev. John Stayton officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Born October 10 1873 in Marshall county Kansas. Married Frank Vosika December 24 1894 in Sidney. Family farmed near Lodgepole then moved to Lodgepole and later Sidney. Survived by six daughters, one son, twenty five grandchildren, sixty nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and brother Wesley Kutis. Pallbearers are grandsons Loring Tobler Glen Kokes Warren Brown Kenneth Lynch Richard Vosika Areval Skrdlandt.

A lone gunman robbed Farmers State Bank in Big Springs at about 11 15 am killing three employees and wounding a fourth. Victims are Mrs Lois Ann Hothan Glenn Hendrickson and Andy Kjeldgaard the bank’s president. Frank Kjeldgaard seriously injured. Gunman described as six feet tall, about 40, driving a light green 1965 Chevrolet without plates. No lead on suspect at press time.
The Mud Springs School District No. 90 in Morrill County will dissolve at a 2 p.m. meeting Monday in the Morrill County Superintendent of Schools office. Patrons, Supt Spangler and John Webb will discuss which district or districts the Mud Springs community will join, with Dalton School District and another Morrill County district as options. District 90 lies just over the Cheyenne County border.
Lincoln report shows the Education Committee backed LB264 by a 5 to 3 vote to sell Nebraska state school lands after leases end. The bill, from Chappell Senator Ra mey Whitney and eight sponsors, faces past opposition to full land sales and would end all leases with sales.
Mrs. Caroline L. Ewert, 79, of Gurley died Wednesday evening after months of illness. Services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Albert Prouty. burial in the church cemetery west of Gurley. Survived by five sons and five daughters, plus two brothers, 35 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She moved to Cheyenne County in 1918 with the family farm, later retiring to Gurley. predeceased by husband William in 1958. Burial arrangements at Gehri g and Son Funeral Home.
Louis Mann seventy seven native Sidney resident and prominent local business figure died at Memorial Rest Home after ten months as a guest. He built a Studebaker dealership into a major local business and was active in civic affairs. Funeral services set for Monday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Monnich officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Mann born November 20 1887 near here married February 6 1919 in Golden Colorado to Blanche Robbins two nieces survive.
