Memorial Day Observance and Local Civic Viewpoint

A large crowd gathered at Greenwood Cemetery near Sidney for Memorial Day ceremonies led by American Legion Commander Oscar Hollinrake. Col V R Rawie delivered the main address on Communist strategy, urging a united front against communism. Senator Carl Curtis spoke at a joint Rotary event criticizing farm and education policies, federal aid, and Medicare proposals, urging agricultural price support and limited government involvement.

Potter Rodeo Opens This Weekend At Potter

The 12th annual Big Potter Rodeo runs Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6, with top cowboys from across the nation and prize money likely to exceed last year’s 3310. Performances start at 1 30 p m each day with events including calf roping bulldogging bull riding bareback riding saddle bronc and a girls barrel race. Ron nie Rossen former world champion bull rider appears as a special attraction with stock by Summit Rodeo Company. Admission is 2 for adults and 75 cents for under 12. Jim Wise returns as rodeo clown and Hadley Barrett will announce with his band at the Saturday night dance.

SHS Band Heads to Lincoln for Nebraskland Parade

Sidney High School 115 piece marching band will perform in the Nebraskland parade in Lincoln Thursday, leaving at 4 a.m. Arrangements include a university tour and Capitol visit. Grand Marshal is Dale Robertson.

Burgled Farm Home Sought by Cheyenne County Sheriff

Cheyenne County officials seek the owners of a white one story farm home about 20 miles south of Bridgeport. Deputy Brummaugh says two theft suspects in South Dakota have confessed to taking items from the unoccupied farm including two power lawn mowers a 17 inch Zenith television stroller and two suitcases of clothing. The home reportedly had only the house and a windmill. Contact the sheriff's office with any identification.

Lodgepole Lions Hold Successful Old Settlers Barbecue

Lodgepole reports a highly successful Old Settlers barbecue benefit held Saturday night in the Legion Hall. A pancake feed, served for a little over two hours, raised about $200 for the barbecue fund. Next Lions Club event is the annual family picnic on Sunday, June 13, at Wise Meadows.

Rites Today For Mother Of Mrs K Bagby

Services were held at Bracken Mortuary for Margaret Wilson 88 of Ogale lala Neb who died May 31 in an Ogallala rest home after two years of ill health. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Survived by six children sixteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. Mrs Kenneth Bagby of Sidney is listed as one of her children.

Alfred E. Zlomke, 73, died early this morning at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. ServicesFriday at 2 p.m. from Craig Mortuary, Rev. Carl L. Nelson officiating. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Born April 20, 1892 in Long Pine, Neb. Lived in Sidney since 1925. Married Helen Knapp on June 22, 1927. Presbyterian Church member. Employed by J. I. Case Co. and Hellbush Electric, retired 1952. Rites For Mrs Joseph Kubes Held Today

Mrs. Joseph Kubes aged 79 died Sunday after eight weeks in Memorial Hospital. Services were held at 9 a.m. at St Patrick's Church with Rev Vincent Pelster presiding. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Born August 30 1885 in Czechoslovakia she married Joseph Kubes in Crete Nebraska May 11 1908. Survived by husband a daughter and several grandchildren great grandchildren. Rosary was said Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home.
