Storm Damage Forces Emergency Bridge Levy in Cheyenne County
A Monday storm caused flash flooding that destroyed six bridges in Pot ter and Point of Rocks areas and damaged others. County commissioners created an emergency bridge fund with a half mill levy to raise 25 000 dollars and begin replacements immediately. The levy rises to 5.70 mills, still lower than many counties, with the original budget lacking a bridge emergency line item.

Driver Credit Seat Belt For Narrow Escape Near Potter
William T. Reshaw of Kimball escaped serious injury when his 1962 Ford pickup left the road and slid into a ditch on a county road south of Potter. Trooper John Trenerry said the 2:30 p.m. crash occurred after passing a grader, the windshield popped out from the impact, and the seat belt kept him unharmed as $125 damage was recorded.

State Levy Lower Sets 9.14 Mills in Nebraska
The State Board of Equalization on Thursday set the 1964 state tax levy at 9.14 mills, down from 9.795. The general fund levy is 6.215 mills with other statutory levies. Stolen Car Found Near Ogallala with Suspect Apprehended
A 1963 Chevrolet stolen at Ogallala was recovered an hour and a half later in Sunol by Nebraska Safety Patrol Trooper John Trenerry. Ray L. Herbert, 18, Santa Clara California, was held at Sidney Police Station for Ogallala authorities. Herbert said he was a passenger and that the driver fled. Farnsworth of Big Springs had reported the theft and recovered the car the same evening.

Two From Depot To Air Force Transfers Continue
Two Sioux Army Depot employees are transferring to the Air Force. Chester B. Scheibel an engineer in depot facilities left July 26 for Mountain Home AFB Idaho with wife Dorothea and daughter Kathy. They reside at Sioux Army Depot and he belongs to the Sioux Officers Open Mess and Gun Club. Gene Straight a clerk in depot facilities will transfer to Ellsworth AFB Rapid City SD leaving about August 3 with wife Judith Ann. He has been at the depot since February 27, 1956 and has served as Sioux Saddle Club secretary since 1962. They reside at Ordville and plan to live at 328 East St Anne Street Rapid City.

Heifer Killed In Car Collision Near Gurley
A northbound 1957 Ford struck a Black Angus heifer on a county road six miles east and one south of Gurley Tuesday night. The 1,200 pound heifer, owned by Dennis Jurgens, died. the car sustained $175 damage. Driver James Jurgens, 17, Gurley, was uninjured.
