Burlington Seeks Dalton Station Closure and Custodian

Burlington Railroad asks the State Railway Commission for permission to close the Dalton station between Alliance Nebraska and Brush Colorado and replace the agent with a custodian at about 300 dollars per year. The plan follows 1957 1958 and 1959 revenue and expense figures and seeks public convenience as justification. Interested parties may comment before August 11 1939 with a formal hearing to follow if needed.

Sidney Country Club to showcases its new interior

Sidney Country Club will host a smorgasbord dinner and dance Saturday at 6 30 p.m. to reveal a renovated porch and ballroom. Guests may attend with non members and should call 3100 to reserve for their party. The club now operates under Mr and Mrs Paul Hecker with daily dinners 5 30 to 9 except Mondays closed.

Manslaughter Plea Entered in Baby's Death

In Bridgeport County Court Henry Engle and his wife Dorothy Engle both pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges filed by County Attorney Robert Bulger. The 4 month old Randy Jo Engle died July 14 after arriving at the hospital dead. A post mortem found malnutrition as the cause.

Twila Larson of Gurley earned a four year nursing scholarship to the University of Wyoming from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Ground Breaking Set Sunday For Church

Public invited as ground breaking for the Wesleyan Methodist Church is scheduled Sunday at 3 p.m. The new $15 000 structure at 18th and Forrest St will be built with split rock and measure about 32 by 40 feet. No Protest Against Cheyenne County Budget Levy

Cheyenne County residents gave no protest to the proposed 1959-60 budget. County Clerk I L Pindell stated the levy would likely be about four mills, possibly the state's lowest. Commissioners plan a modest increase for the general fund to keep a reserve near $50,000, with the final levy set around mid August.

First Degree Murder Charge Filed in Ogallala Case

Keith County attorney firming Feltz filed a first degree murder charge against Art Hunnel 63 in the shotgun killing of his stepson Ernest Lars Gibbs 34 of North Platte Gibbs was shot at Art's Lodge on Lake McConaugh Feltz said Hunnel admitted firing the shot.

Trucker Fined For Overload in Burlington

A Burlington Colorado trucker was fined 100 dollars and costs by County Judge C W Smith for overloading his truck. Erwin H Dressman faced a formal overweight on axle charge after highway patrol halted him. Albert J Kinnersley Jr bound over to district court on a drunken driving count with a 300 dollar bond. Earl Smith paid 25 dollars and costs for failing to report an accident. Sid Sherwood paid 25 dollars in county court for assault and battery on Walter Hrbek. A charge of failing to support his wife and three minor children is on file against William Benkasky.

The State Board of Equalization announced at noon that the state tax levy for next year will be 843 mills, a rise from last year.

Bonds and Interest Dominate Sidney Budget 1959 60

The proposed Sidney budget shows one third of the 23,820 mill levy allocated to bonds and interest for fiscal 1959-1960, with total taxes $182,145 of $321,100 city costs from taxes and fees. Bond payments cover aviation field, paving, sewer, and other projects, while the Housing Authority eyes a $47,500 Sioux Villa Fund and a 10,000 tract deal with Union Pacific east of the park.

Light Wheat Becomes Eligible For Price Support

The 1959 crop price support rules are relaxed to include light weight wheat. Light wheat will be sample grade on test weight, with eligibility from 40 pounds per bushel up to 45 pounds at four cents per pound and beyond at six cents per pound, added to existing nine cent No. 5 test weight discounts.

Wool incentive payments totaled in Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County payments under the 1958 wool program reached 13 902.75 with 2 550.72 paid on unshorn lambs and 11 152.03 on shorn wool. Chairman James C Johnson noted payments began after July 1 and that applications were due by April 30. A September referendum will decide continuation of funding a market development program financed by wool incentive deductions.

Gurley Farmer Suffers Slight Heart Attack

Berton Cunningham a prominent Gurley farmer suffered a slight heart attack Thursday evening while returning from Denver with his family. He was brought to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Dalton and is reported in satisfactory condition by his physician.

Historical Museum Opening Near Cay Park Sunday

Alliance's remodeled Historical Museum reopens this Sunday afternoon from 2 30 to 4 30. Hostesses from the Point of Rock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will greet visitors. The museum is now at Seventh and Yellowstone near Cay Park after relocation from Alliance Municipal Airport.
