Cheyenne County Wheat Acreage Cut Leads State In 1954

Cheyenne County reports a 28 percent reduction in wheat acres for 1954, the highest in the state. County allotments will be issued by the PMA, with farmers choosing to stay eligible or sell planting schedules. Merle Billeter Dies After Illness At 46

Merle Orvil Joseph Billeter 46 died Tuesday in Clarkson Memorial after years of illness. Funeral Friday at St. Patrick's Church with Fr Albel officiating. Gehrig Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers listed. Born April 27, 1907 in Fremont, he lived in Nickerson, Johnson Co Wy, Cheyenne County, then Mo. He married Anna L. Zimola Jan 12 in Sidney. Survived by wife, five children, five sisters and one brother.

Premium List Printed Today For 1952 County Fair

The Telegraph publishes a full premium list for the 1952 county fair showing dates August 22 to August 25. About one thousand rural boxholders received the book this week per County Agent Ivan Liljegren. A printing shortfall left some residents without books. readers may clip the list from today’s paper for reference and may contact Mr Liljegren or county fair members with questions.

State Board Hikes Cheyenne County Assessments

The State Board of Equalization and Assessment met July 27 and raised real and personal property assessments in Cheyenne County for 1953. Lands and improvements rose to an assessed value of 20,941,750 with a 67 percent total blanket increase, lots and improvements to 7,205,220 with a 64 percent total blanket hike, and business property to 2,342,305 with a 16 percent rise. Household goods and personal equipment retained 223,115. The changes will be added to each item’s assessment.

Sidney floods as heavy rains raise Lodgepole Creek high

Caught by heavy rains Wednesday night Cheyenne County endured record flooding. Lodgepole Creek surged to historic levels flooding American Legion Park Sid ney and threatening Phoenix Development Company homes. National Guard ready for disaster duty as more rain possible. Farm families evacuated as water and six inch rains hit Gurley Dalton Potter and Sioux Reserve areas.

Placid Stream Threatens South Sidney Area
