Art workshop in Sidney features Don Dernovich this weekend
An artist with shows in New York Paris and Denver leads a Saturday Sunday workshop at Sidney Junior High School art room. Sessions run 9am to 4pm both days open to the public. Dernovich from Culbertson Neb holds two UW art degrees and has held solo shows across multiple states. He aims to teach beginning drawing and portrait work with attendees bringing their own supplies. Sponsored by Cheyenne County Art Guild with NEA support via the Nebraska Arts Council.

Airmen detained after attempting to impress woman at silo
At Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne Wyoming two airmen and a female companion were detained after an open silo hatch was found inside a security fence. An automatic alarm triggered a response revealing entry to the launch complex but the missile remained secure. An investigation found they attempted the act to impress the woman, not to gain access to the weapon. About 200 of the 1000 Minuteman missiles are controlled from Warren.

In Alliance, the Sidney Midgets stretched their win streak to nine with a 75 against Alliance as Jaye Kieselhorst pitched and hit three doubles. The Sidney Juniors won 15 to 5, extending their streak to seven behind strong offense and multiple RBI hits. Summer camp ready to open at Lodgepole Valley grounds
Everything is set for the Community Action summer camp opening Monday at the Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp. About 110 elementary children will attend the fifth annual event, sponsored by the Sidney Community Action office and funded by donations from Kimball Cheyenne and Deuel counties. The camp runs in two sessions with crafts sports entertainment and socializing for youths from the three county area. NPCAA staff and volunteers supervise the youngsters.
