Car Stolen From Manston Recovered Near Sidney

Kenneth Arnetvit reported a 1954 model car stolen from his Manston Wisconsin home on July 19. The vehicle was found parked in trees by the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds near Sidney after a Nebraska Safety Patrol tip. It had front-end damage from a prior accident.

Dogs Run Loose and Owners Fined in Sid ney Court

First cases under Sidney’s strengthened dog ordinance appear in the police court. Johnnie Ruff of Sidney pleads innocent to permitting a dog to run loose and harboring a vicious animal. Judge Glen Greenlee fines him 25 dollars and costs and orders 29 nights in jail in lieu of payment. Police are to dispose of the dog if it runs loose again. Harold Kurz also fined 25 dollars and costs for letting a dog run loose.

Two Weekend Auto Crashes Hospitalize Two

Two weekend crashes on Highway 30 sent three people to hospital and injured others. Mrs. Minda Caron 62 of Chicago and Joan Buhrdorf 17 of Potter were treated here with fair and good conditions respectively after a collision 11.2 miles west of Sidney around 10 15 am. Involved were Paul Caron 62 and Lila Meyer 16, with the Meyer vehicle a total loss and Caron car damaged. A second crash two miles east of Potter injured Buddy Summers 21 as the car he rode in collided with another driven by Dean Kelley 27 of Omaha. Total damage in the second crash was 700.

Rites set for Benjamin Snyder in Cheyenne

Final rites for Benjamin Snyder 54 will be held Tuesday morning at 10 in Cheyenne. He died yesterday in Cheyenne Memorial Hospital after a heart condition. Burial will be in Denver. Snyder moved to Sidney in 1910 and operated Snyder Clothing Co. since 1938. Surviving: wife Sylvia and three children Jerry Denver Linda and Steven at home, four sisters, four brothers, with a long list of relatives noted.

Dream Turned Real as No. 407 Finds Rest in Sidney Park

The Union Pacific locomotive No. 407 is placed in Legion Park Sidney after a community effort led by the Cheyenne County Historical Association. Volunteers from Rogers Truck Lines, the chambers of commerce, and UP workers assisted in the slow six block move using portable track sections and a dedicated crowd watched as a pedestal was prepared. The project drew donations from Inland Construction Ohio Oil Co Panhandle Distributing and others. City officials plan a fence ladder and daylight access for visitors with safety reminders in place.

Cheyenne County to Hear Two Valuation Cases

Cheyenne County commissioners as a board of equalization will review two cases tomorrow. The firms involved will defend their declared valuations with county Assessor Roy Gish noting state tax officials will attend one day. Several hundred thousand dollars in valuation are at stake.
