Catalogue houses are attacked for cash prices with offers to cover freight and damages. Dealers claim a big stock and cash orders below rival rates. Ads tout gas stoves cream freezers screen doors wire cloth and fencing with ground-floor prices and best dollar tools.
A Tuesday meeting backed the idea of a September street fair with plans to use village streets and attract attendees. Committees will seek attractions and coordinate with the Village Board while a follow up gathering will be held next week. Citizens offered time and funds, aiming for clean, amusing, instructive events. Also in this issue County Treasurer Greenlee reports improving county finances with paid warrants and cash on hand across funds, indicating strong fiscal health and faith in officials.
The text notes Dr Stowitts rigging city water pressure to power an improvised X ray device using a turbine wheel and plumbing from the street main, with a waste pipe dumping into a ditch on Front Street, promising electric shocks and hair-raising effects. It also covers routine local notices including land office filings, clerks, revival services, and a prison transfer of Edward Sharp killer Lewis. Sheriff Ingalls escorted Lewis to the state penitentiary after a June quarrel with a woman involved.

Wednesday evening at 8 o clock the wedding of Herbert S. McDougall and Birdie K. Ottemann took place at the bride’s mother Mrs Margaret Ottemann residence. Rev J S Leamer officiated in a quiet home ceremony with few intimate friends. They will honeymoon ten days visiting Columbus and Lincoln Neb and plan to settle in the Neumann building. The bride, from Sidney’s pioneer family, is well regarded and the groom works for Union Pacific.
Mrs. Charles H. Bonesteel widow of the late Major Bonesteel formerly of the 21st Infantry died after a several months illness at Plattsburg New York on July 9 She leaves three children Katherine Stone Charles Hartwell and Mary Greene Funeral services were at St Johns Church Plattsburg on July 11 and interment followed in the Bonesteel family plot in Bridgeport Connecticut
Last Saturday night at the Tobin Opera House Mr J C Fuller and Miss Kyne presented a pretty little play Convict's Daughter assisted by Howe talent. Messrs Essig Sanders Worden and Misses DeVane and SAXaders played parts well. Music by Stone Jessen Gapen and a strong receipts end in the Fire Department treasury.
An accident last Saturday during a scene caused C. D. Essig to be cut on the forehead by a thrown bottle. Mr. Fuller, portraying a character with strong drink, accidentally struck Essig, bleeding severely until a surgeon sewed and bandaged the wound. Essig suffered no lasting harm but will bear a scar for some time.
Judge Tucker granted a marriage license Tuesday to John H. Eddy of Fort Madison Wisconsin and Misa Birdie Belle Isenberger a Lodgepole resident. The wedding occurred at the bride's parents home in Lodgepole the next day. The couple will reside at Fort Madison. G D Chamberlain engineer in Sid ney married Ming Flora Haman of North Platte July 21. They planned a wedding tour east to Maine, and friends in Sidney send best wishes.
Advertising circulated in Sidney this week claiming North Platte will host a carnival next week. Citizens anticipate events and a large attendance by locals.
Judge O Neill of Chappell and County Superintendent Knox with son Victor visit various towns. Dalton resident Nellie Ackerman improves slowly. Redington couple Endsley trip through Yellowst ove Park. Odd Fellows hold Krueger Lake picnic. Subscriptions and newspaper pricing updates announced. Miss Valeska Neubauer returns from eastern trip via St Louis ex position. Lutheran ice cream event draws patrons. Rev J I McLaughlin to preach in Sidney with Shumate leading services. Subscribers Bratz and Vick visit to advance year ahead. Myrtle Hiett to visit St Louis and Chicago after exposition. Local man Lowell Fuller breaks right arm in fall from horse.
