Advertises competing against catalogue houses with cash payment, delivery at no extra cost, and guarantees. Promises large stock for inspection and refunds for damaged items. Highlights gasoline stoves, cream freezers, screen doors, wire cloth, wire fencing, and various tools at basement prices.
A brisk rain and a flurry of social visits mark Sidney area life. Citizens report weather, travel notes, visits from Bridgeport to North Platte, local elections planning, school and bank checks, a manslaughter conviction, and community events including picnics, concerts, and a fire department feature.
In an interview with The Lincoln Star Senator C H Dietrich argues the Kinkaid law does not adequately solve the western land problem. He suggests amendments including auctioning unclaimed lands after two years, lowering homestead price to 50 cents an acre after two years, and allowing additional land to be purchased to support families.
A severe hailstorm in Bayard last week wrecked crops across two miles by ten miles. Frank Durnal and Paul Sandoz suffered the heaviest losses with nearly 200 bushels of apples plums grapes and small fruit destroyed. Alfalfa fields left to ripen for seed also suffered heavy losses.
Miss Emilie Cunningham reached Omaha last Friday and entered the Methodist hospital to pursue a three year course as a trained nurse. She is on probation for two months and may drop out then if she decides nursing is not for her. The Kimball Observer predicts she will complete the course and graduate at the head of her class.
Crete Nurseries announced plans to plant many fruit trees in the North Platte Valley, focusing on plums and cherries. They note the climate and soil suit these crops, with already established orchards thriving and prospects for local fruit to meet demand.
Misa Abbie Shuman of Denver formerly of Sidney married Herbert Munson manager of the Inside Inn in St Louis on July 14. Mina Shuman with her aunt and two cousins arrived in St Louis the day before. The couple will reside at the Inside Inn on the exposition grounds during the fair.
Lincoln News reports Cheyenne county does not possess a steamboat. An assessor had listed a steamboat at 80 cents but explained it is an Indian canoe not worth the listed amount.
Unclaimed letters remaining at the Sidney post office listed by date July 22 1904. Recipients include George Smith O H Wingett and E McLernon. Postmaster notes to mention advertised when replying.
Ice cream cake and coffee will be served Thursday afternoon and evening at the home of Mrs Trognitz. Admission is 15 cents. Everyone is invited.
Hugh Barnhart and Gus Buckingham linked to Ogden and reinstatement as freight conductor. A.J. Sanford and Will Cummings travel for visits while local relief replaces them. Soda Water Sal is in Cheyenne shops for repairs after a relapse. Wires shorted in the depot office. parks superintendent plans yard upgrades including trees, flowers, and a keep off the grass rule. Sidney area work: concrete gangs, repairs, painting, yard expansion, new freight house, and a possible double track within a year.
The Nebraska Grand Army Special offers a direct August 13 departure from Omaha via Union Pacific and North-Western Line with sleeper service to Boston, no change trains.
