Sugar beets exceed last year’s output. beans and potatoes progress well. irrigated corn grows vigorously and small grains may match all time highs. Rice moisture early season aided growth. heavy weed control required but fields stay ahead. About 125 pumps in the valley between Dix and Chappell, plus large irrigated acreage in Kimball County under reservoirs, contributing to farm income. Last year was hard due to short beet crop and low beet prices. farmers hope for a better 1949 harvest season.

Wasser Services Held Yesterday
Final rites were held Thursday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Thelma Wasser 42 who died Monday morning. Rev. Howard Osborne led services and burial was planned in Scottsbluff Cemetery beside her husband Leonard killed in a 15 year old crash. The Craig Mortuary arranged the service in Sidney with pallbearers E D Kerr G M Scofield F G Harrington K L Sh Delno Karr and D Heck. Mrs. Wasser born March 27 1907 in Denver lived with her parents B O Tracy and wife and two daughters Lawanna and Beverly at their home since her husband’s death. She worked as a telephone operator and had been ill for three months.

Fall From Auto Fatal To Tourist In Nebraska 1949
Mrs Mae Taylor 45 of Chicago died in a Sidney hospital at 10 45 am after falling from a moving car on highway 30 one mile west of Sidney. Basal skull fracture caused unconsciousness and death followed five hours later. Taylor was in the rear seat and vanished from the car as sister Mrs Beatrice Vogt and driver Mr Vogt could offer no clear explanation. Her daughter Mrs Mae Burfind of South San Francisco will bring the body to Chicago. funeral services planned there.

Head conservationist Lee Girardot notes farmers favor contouring with modified chisels to hold more winter moisture, with straw left standing to catch snow.
