Lincoln region reports that the Nebraska Department of Roads will open bids August 27 for 6.9 miles of I-80 in Cheyenne County from one mile west of Sunol Interchange easterly to connect with Lodgepole area work. The project includes grading gravel detours culverts and incidental work plus three bridges at and near the Sunol interchange. Weather permitting several months of work could proceed after award. starting date not specified.

Lincoln road surface project planned this fall
Nebraska Department of Roads reports an asphaltic concrete surface course will be laid on a county road from the Oshkosh Interchange toward the Colorado state line, spanning about two miles south and one mile east then south. Work runs from late August to mid October under a $139,316 contract awarded May 7 to Werner Construction Co of Hastings. Project Engineer is D L Custer of Sidney. No detour. tailgating and high speeds advised against to prevent gravel marks and oil spatters, which kerosene or light oil solvents can remove.

Three Men Burned By Motor Fuel In Potter Area
Three men sustained serious burns in two vehicle fires near Potter on Saturday. Leonard Parshall was burned while working under his car when gasoline ignited around 6 p.m. He ran inside, removing his shirt as flames spread. Wayne Moeller and James Worley, harvest crew workers from Mountain Park, Okla., were burned on the face, chest and arms while cleaning a truck motor with diesel fuel around 8:15 p.m. All three were transported to Memorial Hospital by Potter Rescue Unit. Mrs Maas at the Maas farm reported Moeller was the more severely burned, with eye injuries not suspected. The Maas farm lies about 14.5 miles northeast of Potter. Emergency care helped ease pain before rescue arrival. Maas praised the rescue crew’s speed and efficiency. Drive carefully.

Scouters Hit Trail For 90 Mile Hike
Thirteen Boy Scouts and leaders from Troop 89 left for an eight day camp-out in Bridger Wilderness near Pinedale Wyoming on Saturday morning. The group will hike 50 miles along rough mountain trails carrying food and supplies in backpacks and on one pack horse. Leaders include Paul H Roberts Bill Wary and Jay Fish with Lonnie DeVier John Cruise Jay Matzke Jeff Hedglin Bob Elsen Scott Cook Bill Mehling Delbert Davison Larry Cox and Paul D Roberts. Transportation to the site was provided by Mr Roberts Jack Fish and Mr Wary with return transport by Lew Mehling and Gerald Matzke on Aug 2.

Two Car collision at 18th and Dodge in Sidney
Police investigated a two car crash Saturday at 18th and Dodge. Thomas Stimka of 1719 3rd St was traveling south when his car was struck by a vehicle driven by Mary Caster of 2016 Dodge. Estimated damages totaled about $650 to Stimka and $700 to Caster. No charges were filed.

Waste Unit Ready Soon at Cheyenne County Fairgrounds
The new waste disposal unit for self contained trailers at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds will be ready in about a week or ten days. Floyd Lanks of the Sidney water department reported the project to the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce tourism committee. The unit handles sewage not garbage and costs are shared by the county and city at 675 dollars each. Ken Pittam heads a sign program. Ed Cole presented two 40 foot highway signs to be placed east and west of Sidney. A committee including Ken Bagby and Don Chaon will finalize copy with Cole before presenting to the city council.
