Lieut Harry Mallory and Marjorie Newton plan to elope on a transcontinental train. A wreck of a taxicab delays their meeting with a minister. Onboard, Marjorie flirts with a conductor to stop the train for Snoozbums the dog, causing chaos and a dramatic near-separation.
In a staged flirtation aboard an overland express, Marjorie uses flattery and insinuations to flatter the conductor. Mallory watches as the conductor’s reserve melts under her relentless sugary chatter. She praises his responsibility and imagines a life as a conductor, tempting him with admiration and desire.
The conductor discovers a risqué scene in the Trans American stateroom and storms to eject a fellow passenger. The porter avoids him, claiming a lovemaking couple in the forward state room needs champagne swiftly. The chase ends with the conductor hauling Snoozbums toward the baggage car as Mallory reassesses Marjorie.
