Area's Wheat Harvest Delayed by Damp Weather in Nebraska

Humidity and recent showers stall western Nebraska wheat as fields stay damp. Sidney, Dalton, Lodgepole and Potter report 66 percent humidity with scant cutting activity. Gurley elevators see scattered progress fifteen miles west, while moisture readings rise from 11.4 to 19 percent in Lodgepole fields. County Budget Hearing Set for July 30 in Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County plans to hold the 1958 59 levy at 3.40 mills matching last year. The public budget hearing is scheduled July 30 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse. The proposed tax raise is about 280 682 with welfare costs rising and general operations budgeted around 183 900 of which 120 000 is to be raised by taxation. Roads are estimated to cost 180 000 and will be funded from additional revenue if accurate.

Leo Farrell dies from gunshot in personal safety case

Leo E. Farrell 41, Sidney insurance man and former Fox Theatre operator, died at Memorial Hospital from gunshot wounds to the head deemed personal safety related. He was found unconscious at home Wednesday afternoon and died that night after emergency treatment. Survivors include his wife Pearl Baker Farrell and four children. Rosary at Gehrig and Son Funeral Homes, body to be sent to Ansley for funeral services and burial.

Tiny Polio Victim Mastered Crutches in Cheyenne County

A three year old polio survivor, Danny Robinson of Potter, made rapid progress learning to walk on crutches under treatment at Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital. After initial leg braces, he moved to crutches on Feb 1 and walked well within a week, with ongoing therapy and hope to discard the devices.

Dennis Walsh 58 Dies in Sleep at Dalton Farm

Dennis J. Walsh of Dalton died in his sleep at his farm home 12 miles north and west of Dalton. He was a longtime farmer, survived by wife Faye Cortney and seven children.
