Jesse Osborn Returns Home From War Adventure

Nine teen year old Jesse Osborn, son of C. J. and Mrs. Osborn, sails from Newport News as a muleteer for the army. His vessel Armenian is torpedoed June 21, survivors reach Havenmouth England, then Bristol. He recounts the sinking, lifeboats, and the crew’s courage before homeward bound to Idelwild ranch with a welcome home.

Life on the Road for Two Sparks Brothers in a Camping Car

Two teen boys from Jacksonville Michigan, Harry and Clifford Sparks, travel from Ann Arbor to camp in a large housecar during the school year. Their father sent them to sharpen independence and emergency readiness. They rest in town only Saturday nights, otherwise living on camp meals of bacon and hearty appetites, with a photographer's van-like top on their vehicle.

Village Board Sets Rules and Appropriations for 1915

The Board of Village Trustees met in regular session on July 16 with Wells, Riggs and Parks present. A no-plumber tap rule was adopted except at approved connections. The session adjourned to July 20, with Parks McIntosh Riggs Wellner in attendance. The county fair carnival will use city streets free of charge. The 1915 budget and general tax levy were enacted. An ordinance governing electric wiring was approved. The board then adjourned.

Obituary: W. A. Fulton Dies After Illness in 1915

W A Fulton died July 22 1915 at his home seven miles southwest of town after a year of progressive heart trouble. Born in 1866 in Iowa he married Clara Horn in Creston Nebraska. He ran a Cheyenne County ranch and plow and threshing outfits. Survived by wife four sons three daughters mother brother and three sisters. Funeral from home to Methodist church in Sidney with Rev W A Hornaday. interment Greenlawn cemetery. Pallbearers listed.

Hitchcock couple embarks on two month northern trip

Mrs. Hitchcock left on Monday for Lincoln to visit relatives while Mr. Hitchcock traveled the same day to Cody, Wyoming, for fishing and roughing it recreation. The couple plans to return to Sidney in about two months.

Senator Hoagland Family Join Bushee for Estes Park Camping

Senator W. W. Hoagland and his family traveled by automobile from North Platte to the Dawson home for Sunday. They followed the Lincoln Highway to Kimball where Senator Bushee and family joined them and the group continued to Estes Park for a two week camping and fishing season.

Pioneering Ranchman Sells Land North of Sidney

S. P. Jones disposed of a half section of land from his original ranch located twenty five miles northeast of Sidney and thirteen miles east of Dalton. Mr Reed of Dalton purchased the property for eight thousand dollars. Jones has sold about thirty thousand dollars worth of land since last fall and still owns his well managed ranch two miles east of Sidney along with his home. He is described as a pioneer ranchman whose thrift industriousness and judgment have placed him on easy street.

Four year old Francis Wellner, son of Ray Wellner, sustained a severe scalp wound from a pony after a rope incident in a corral two miles north of town. Nine stitches closed a skull cut, and though unconscious for hours, doctors hold out hope for eventual recovery.

Prospects Good for Flour Mill in Sidney

J E McClenaghan and F H Human of Seward visited Sidney to review building a flour mill or elevator. They toured 70 miles of wheat country praising the fields and quality, with plans suggested for a mill or both mill and elevator. Samples tested in St Louis showed flour from local wheat superior to eastern Nebraska grain.

Officials and Movie Men Pass Through Sidney on Lincoln Highway

On Wednesday the Lincoln Highway and Moving Picture department traveled through Sidney on a coast to coast tour. H. C. Osterman, national censor, led the movement with no filming done there due to prior contracts. In Big Springs markers to Denver were marked out by the head consul. The caravan included four touring cars and one truck with moving picture machines, briefly stopping to greet J. L. McIntosh, Cheyenne County Consul.
