Abduction attempt reported in Sidney area

Law enforcement investigated a reported abduction attempt after a 12 year old girl described a man and a car. A man was taken into custody in Rawlins and questioned. The girl escaped unharmed and provided a description. no missing person reports were filed. A photo of the Rawlins suspect was being sent to Sidney.

Lienemann Reelected Chairman at Nebraska Western College

Gene Lienemann of Sidney was reelected chairman of the Western Technical Community College Area board at Nebraska Western College in Scottsbluff. Tom Brower was reelected as vice chairman. Coral Richards was named secretary, Calvin Lenhart treasurer, and Russell Lovell board attorney. NWCEA named sole bargaining agent for NWC WNTC and Alliance Nursing School. Budget discussions paused for figure issues. public hearing planned next month.

Simpson Convicted of Murder and Robbery in Kimball County

Jerry Simpson, 22, of Cleves Ohio, found guilty of first degree murder and robbery by a Kimball County District Court jury after about an hour of deliberation. Evidence tied him to the victim Fred J Skiba and the crime along Interstate 80 near Sidney. A sentencing hearing is to be set within seven days by Judge John D Knapp.

Fair board plans for Cheyenne County Fair 1977

As the Cheyenne County Fair nears its July start, fair board committees outline preparations at the grounds with a new grandstand and rodeo chutes under construction.
