Simpson jury hears prosecution testimony in Kimball trial
The Kimball murder case against Jerry Simpson, 22, of Cleves Ohio, entered another day of prosecution testimony as Cheyenne County Attorney Tom Sonn said the defense would start Thursday or Friday. Simpson is charged with robbery and murder in the November 12 1976 death of Fred J. Skiba 46 of Rancho Cordova California. Skiba body was found west of the Sidney Interstate 80 interchange and his car near Kimball. Simpson’s sister Jacqueline Brick had pleaded guilty to second degree murder. sentencing awaits a state penal complex evaluation and a pre sentence investigation. Investigator James G Robinson testified that Simpson said he, Brick, and Brick's 3 year old daughter were hitchhiking with Skiba near Omaha. Brick pulled a gun and it discharged during a scuffle. Robinson said Skiba was dragged to a ditch, robbed of about 230 dollars, then shot again. The defense claims Brick was the key figure in the death. Sixteen Kimball County residents were chosen for the jury. Judge John D Knapp presiding.

County approves beef promotion program by 82 to 39 vote
Cheyenne County beef producers voted 82 to 39 in favor of the proposed beef promotion program, according to ASCS executive director Lawrence Thompson. The tally met the two thirds approval needed, with most votes cast near the deadline last Friday. The plan would require cattle producers to pay a percentage of sale proceeds to fund promotion research and market development, estimated at 30 to 40 million dollars annually.
