A Sidney Civil Air Patrol survey counted 12 average daily landings and takeoffs at Kimball airport over four days Thursday through Sunday as part of a nationwide effort. 470 Mile Trek Promotes International Parks Trail Ride
A 470 mile horseback journey from Burlington Colorado to Levelland Texas begins August 2 to launch annual International Parks Trail Rides. Trail Boss Clyde Prestwood, Levelland resident and South Plains College dean, aims to attract national and international attention to the International Parks Highway route from Canada to Big Bend National Park. The group hopes for 10 000 Hospitality Day attendees at Levelland and hosts a 10 mile grand entry with riders joining at Whitharral.

Extra Point Club Formed to Fund Nebraska Athletics
Carroll Zaruba toured Sidney to promote an Extra Point Club chapter with Ed Swanson and Jim Godfrey as leaders. Members donate one dollar toward $1,000 annual athletic scholarships covering board, room, books, and tuition. Zaruba notes that funds support football and other sports, with scholarships increasing from 22 in 1955 to 70 today.

Retired Sidney Farmer Is Dead Service Friday
Henry C Schlesselman 80 died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital after a three week stay. A Sidney resident since 1966 he was a retired farmer. Funeral Friday at 2 pm from Craig Mortuary with Rev. O D Hoagland officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. He married Lena Bersi in 1902. survivors include Lena, daughter LaVera Brockman, a brother, and several half-siblings. Preceded in death by a son Elmer in 1946.

Firemen Respond to Three Small Blazes
Firemen answered three calls Monday and Tuesday with minor damage. A grass and wheat fire on the Ernest Reker farm ten miles southeast of Sidney burned less than an acre, blamed on truck exhaust. A rail right of way blaze Monday evening and a grass and junk fire at Sioux Villa Monday afternoon caused no damage.

Byron Hargens Killed In Head-On Two-Car Collision
Byron H Hargens 63 of Long Pine Neb died in a two vehicle head on crash about seven miles east of Ainsworth on U S 20. Roger W Paulson 19 of Mission SD suffered a broken leg and was hospitalized. Surviving relatives include his son Albert and other family members.

Sidney man dies by self-inflicted gunshot
A 61 year old Sidney resident Veryl C. Shepperd was found dead Tuesday morning on a road northwest of town, reportedly after shooting himself in the head. He had lived in Denver prior to a month in Sidney and is survived by his wife a son and a daughter. The body was sent to Denver for services with Gehrig and Son Funeral Home in charge.
