Many Claims Allowed and a New County Road Established
Sidney Neb July 10 1902 board audited and allowed numerous general fund and bridge fund claims including pauper relief and road work. Public roads were established from sections 30 two seven north to the southeast corner and another from section line west 12 miles. Resignations and new JPs were noted for Camp Clarke and Bayard precincts with appointments to fill vacancies. Board adjourned to meet August 18 1902.

Cowboys Quinn and Maroney Arrested for Cattle Theft Schemes
Two veteran cowboys Jack Quinn and Ed Maroney were jailed in Greeley Colorado on charges of wholesale cattle stealing. The men allegedly gained cattle by claiming control of grazing lands and used the scalp brand to dupe owners, later selling fat cattle and replacing brands to claim ownership in roundups.

May Abandon North Platte Shops
The Union Pacific plans to close rail road shops at North Platte following a system-wide strike. Machinery will move to Grand Island and Sidney with most gear heading to Grand Island. North Platte work will shift to Omaha or Cheyenne where cheaper, newer equipment exists.

School Board Organizes and Plans Principal Search
The school board met Monday evening at the land office and elected Jas L McIntosh moderator Leroy Martin director and J J Mc Intosh treasurer. They read and accepted L B Cary’s resignation as principal and instructed the director to seek a suitable replacement with the state superintendent. They also ordered discussions with the state treasurer on refunding outstanding district bonds at a lower rate. A follow up meeting was set for next Monday to continue principal and assistant selection.
