New Academy to Replace 50 Year Old Structure

Sidney plans a new St. Patrick’s Academy replacing the 50 year old building with a modern school and a convent for 25 nuns. The campaign to raise funds will be a one day whirlwind drive on August 10 led by Dr. C. B. Dorwart and Curtis Crum, with a target to be set after initial results. Ground breaking could occur early in 1959 and the old building will be razed after construction.

Youth Severely Burned In Fall From Quonset Project

Donnell Hatch aged 16 of Scottsbluff was severely burned this afternoon after falling from a quonset construction roof at Sunol and touching high tension wires. He suffered facial and foot burns and was rushed to Memorial Hospital by police escort around two pm for emergency treatment. No doctor’s report was available at press time.

Frontier air lines approved to fly Omaha Casper route

The Civil Aeronautics Board granted Frontier Airlines authority to operate a daily round trip between Casper Wyoming and Omaha Nebraska with intermediate stops in Douglas Lusk Ainsworth Norfolk Chadron and Lincoln Nebraska for 60 days while the seven state area investigation proceeds. United Air Lines and Ozark Air Lines opposed the application.

Backer Damage Suit Settled After City Payout

The Backers case ends with the City paying 750 to cover all claims. George and Mollie Bakker claimed damage to a vacant lot beside the 13th Street underpass after its construction. Panhandle Wheat Outlook Hailed By Weather Delays

Unstable western Nebraska weather threatens a record Panhandle winter wheat crop if three hot dry weeks follow. Delays due to rain and hail risk lower protein content and grain quality.
