Only Two State Officers Appear on '68 Ballots

Nebraska moves to four year terms for most officials. The May 14 primary will nominating two spots on the State Railway Commission while governor, attorney general, secretary of state, auditor and treasurer avoid the primary. The ballot also includes presidential preference, convention delegates, three congressional seats, four State Board of Education members, 25 legislative seats and two UN Board of Regents seats.

Big Mac Road Bids Announced in Nebraska

The State Highway Department announced low bids on Nebraska highway work including two Lake McConaughy projects in Keith County. Lemoyne west recreation road carries Missouri Valley Construction Co bids of 176,606 for asphaltic concrete surfacing 175,888 for grading 47,787 for culverts and Hills Sand and Gravel Co 15,835 for guard railing. Otter Creek recreation grounds bids by Missouri Valley Construction Co 108,785 for grading 113,346 for asphaltic concrete surfacing 28,470 for culverts and Hill s Sand and Gravel Co 15,795 for guard railing.

Market Is Light But Prices Firm at Sidney Sale

Hogs in the 200-230 pound range sold for 22.80 to 23.00 dollars, with heavier hogs 240-270 pounds at 22.00 to 22.50 and sows 15.75 to 17.10 under brisk demand. Feeders fetched 16 to 18 dollars, some very small ones 6.50 to 9. Light cattle were strong, 276 pound steers at 33 dollars, a 473 pound steer at 30, and butcher cows 15.80 to 18.50 amid solid demand.

Trains Stop as Nationwide Strike Halts Mail

The Sidney post office reported delayed arrivals from the east with mail not reaching until 8:30 am while a rail strike crippled Union Pacific yards in Sidney and nationwide. Postmaster Ferris Preble described limited mail dispatch beyond second parcel post zone and reliance on air lift and truck star routes for first class mail amid government intervention to end the strike over Vietnam War material movements.

Added To Sales Pavilion Staff Now serving The Sidney Livestock Sales Pavilion as a field representative and auctioneer is Dallas McDuffee formerly of Albion Nebraska He is a graduate of the Western College of Auctioneering at Billings Montana He and his wife Gretchen live at 518 Illinois St A spokesman says Mr McDuffee will assist with auctions and will spend time in the field seeking new business for the Sidney sales ring He comes from a large cattle feeding area and has a background qualifying him for the post according to pavilion officials.

Lodgepole Stores Hit For 1500 Dollars

Two Lodgepole businesses were burglarized over the weekend. Cheyenne County Sheriff Kermit Brumbaugh said the total value of stolen items was about 1500 dollars. Wise Superette Grocery lost cigarettes and 10,000 trading stamps after entry through the front door. Wanda's Gift and Clothing was entered through a side door with about ten watches and assorted jewelry stolen, plus clothing for men and women.
